Wireless Charging

Featured Replies

On the Features & Spec page of the SE Business in the features available over the SE range, it states under Technology that Phone box (+ wireless charging from week 22, 2016) is standard.

Does anyone know what format the wireless charging is, and what phones it can / can't support?

I'd assume it uses the QI system. Many smartphones already have it integrated, whilst others (like iPhones) require an adaptor.

There's a list here.

My Lumia 830 has it integrated, so would be very handy if it was included.

However looks like from April/May onwards next year.

I would assume QI which has been a standard on most high end android phones for about 3years now.

I am anoyed it is only from next year. Could this be retro fitted? I am also still consernd my Nexus 6 will not fit in the phonebox

I read somewhere that the delay was due to phone manufactures getting their act together (VHS / Betamax, scenario)

Like all tech though... Theirs always something else around the corner :-) You just have to bit the bullet sometime !

The Nexus 6 measures 82.98 x 159.26 x 10.06mm compared to the 77.8 x 158.1 x 7.1mm dimensions of the iPhone 6 Plus.

My iPhone 6 Plus has an Otter case on it which must add 5+mm to the size and it easily fitted into the car I test drove, so I don't think it will be an issue.

That's a joke because phone makers all aligned, minus apple, on QI years ago. Where as cars makers have never observed tech standards!

Apparently Skoda didn't want to be the test bed for this so the Audi Q7 is running it first, with Skoda rolling out in 2016.

I think I will just hack my car with a QI charger in the arm rest and not opt for Phone Box.

Still not sure Phone Box is worth the money without charging included.

If your car is going to have a heated windscreen then the phonebook also boosts the signal lost due to the heated screen.
