ticking over on 3 cylinders

Featured Replies

Right after a massive outlay on my 2009 1.9 105 PD engine (BXE) Octavia it's still ticking over on 3 cylinders, it gets worse as the engine temperature gets hotter, however once I start driving the car it's fine?.

so far the head has been removed skimmed and pressure tested, all 8 valves and guides have been replaced new camshaft  bearings and followers also replaced but still it's idling poor on 3 cylinders

next step is to replace the injector wiring loom then if that don't work it's onto the injectors

There is no EML light on the dash so now totally confused.....any ideas suggestions more than welcome please

Finally got this sorted, after renewing all the top end of the engine thinking this would sort it  but it didn't

So I changed the injector wiring loom but still no change then I changed all 4 injectors complete with new seals and stretch bolts still no difference (apart from the engine being much quieter)

next I changed the MAF sensor still no difference so as a last gasp chance I unplugged the engine temp sensor and it ticked over perfect, plugged it back in and it ticked over lumpy again

replaced the engine temp sensor and hey presto jobs a good un it idles perfect and thanks to the rest of the engine parts the car feels like it has a new lease of life, much better acceleration much more responsive

so I am well happy, however the main cause of all this was a £7 engine temp sensor so if you get a lumpy erratic tick over change the engine temperature sensor 1st it may just save you hundreds of pounds.

Hmmm, interesting, I shall remember this one incase mine does similar! You'd think a duff temp sensor would show itself by way of a 'stupid' temp guage reading, or at least a daft reading on a diagnostics machine.

Did your engine sound like banging on tick over,?

I'm having a banging noise from mine on tick over, sounds like 2 or 3 cylinders, thought it was big ends, but disappears after 10 seconds
