Check the main vacuum hose that goes to the brake servo. The connections can crack and leak, although your car is very young for this to have happened.  Which engine does your Fabia have?

Hi Davebw192

Brake problem from Dec last year - still not sorted !!!!!!!!!!

This is a case where I would whistle it straight back to the supplier (presumably a Skoda Dealer?) insist on a loan car - and only accept re-delivery if a full genuine explanation is given, plus an ideas of parts used.

We did have a number of weird brake problems to sort out over the years, AND IN EACH CASE, there was a reason found to explain the fault. I would assume that you have been in contact with the dealership, BUT, you really do need to get SKODA THEMSELF involved in this one. It's too risky not to.

Do keep us all informed as to what happens.

It has 16 TDI, there seems to be quite a few people with the same fault, skoda uk says they have not heard about this fault, which I find hard to belive, I think as I had a bump because of this I should inform VOSA and the police, any Ideas ?, to add insult to injury they want me to pay £12 per day for car insurance for one of their cars, they said it could be in for up to 14 days while they find the fault another £168, I dont think this is fair...

Sounds to me that they are taking the pi$$. If your car is faulty, why should you pay for the insurance on one their loan cars.

I would demand an instant answer from Skoda UK tell dealer that VOSA have been informed about the problem and for them not be honest in finding the fault

Thanks Tom, I have spoken to skoda uk the said I have to pay the insurance, ive no idea on what to do now, I did remind them its a new car with a major fault.

If it is Warranty work then pay the Dealership what they want and Invoice Skoda UK Customer Services for your out of pocket expenses

and your Hourly Rate taking and collecting your car at the Franchised Dealership to have repair work done.

It is Skoda CZ's Manufacturing Faults that cause the vehicle to need this Safety Critical Work Done.

I assume your car is under warranty still? If it is then they shouldn't make you pay for insurance on the courtesy car, no way. I had an issue with my car and they gave me a courtesy car for a week with insurance on them.

Sounds like the vacuum hose has split, happened on my mk1 vrs and read various other threads about people having issues with them too.

It's a cheap fix IIRC, if that fails it could be a servo or brake like fault?

Courtesy cars are generally free to use but carry a £500 excess if you have an accident in them, my local Skoda does anyways.

Id be calling out skoda assist. Its under warranty and the car isnt safe to use.

Therefore, you shouldnt drive it until theyve repaired it.

Thanks Addict, Skoda assist have provided me with a car untill mine is fixed, on my way to the garage I got a phone call from skoda uk to say they woul pay for 5 days, I told them I had already arranged 1 through assist, also the AA guy said he thinks its an ABS fault, same thing is happening with polo and audi A1 and A3, we will see when I get the car back.

Spot on.

Just dont let them take a penny off you.

Its their problem to sort, youre the poor inconvenienced customer.

"also the AA guy said he thinks its an ABS fault, same thing is happening with polo and audi A1 and A3, we will see when I get the car back."

This information is absolutely appalling - in fact it is frightening.

About 2 months ago my daughter had a minor shunt in her 2 year old A3 - and this has set me thinking, as she is still hazy why this happened and has been troubled ever since.

In your case, my biggest fear is that they will keep the car and then pronounce it to be faultless having not really got to the root of the problem.

I would not except this, and at the very least would expect the following action to be taken if they take that route.

1 - renewal of the hose from the induction manifld to the servo + very importantly the replacement of the one way valve.

2 - Replacement of the servo +special attention to the clearance of the master cylinder rod/servo interface.

3 - Renewal of the ABS.

If you feel you are being given the run around make sure you keep all correspondance and a log of events/visits and conversations (make note of names) - and if you are unhappy tell the dealer in writing, adding that you feel correspondance to VOSA is merited.

Remember with brakes, if there is any doubt (regardless of the cost to Skoda and the dealership) every effort must be made to correct the fault to your complete satisfaction.

As I said in an earlier post - PLEASE keep us all informed of all events from now on

Good luck, and push skoda and the dealer all the way.

Okay Skoda dealer says nothing wrong with brakes and ABS any ideas any one ??????

The Skoda Assist Operative must have believed there was a fault, or did they just act on what you told them?

Best enquire with the Service Manager or Workshop Manager if not only a Visual Inspection was done, and a Master Technician Road Tested it, but that it has been on the Rollers for a Brake Efficiency Test.

Ask them to confirm this in writing.

I think you are going to have to Contact Skoda UK Customer Services and start a Case,

or open the one they have and get a Handler and see if Skoda UK are going to arrange a Professional Inspection of your cars braking system.

............................

?

Are you prepared to say which Skoda Dealers Workshop your car has been at to have your brakes checked?

You really MUST stress in writing without delay to both the dealer and Skoda UK that this is an intermittent problem, and has happened 6 or 7 times since new.

They (understandably) found no fault on the time that they looked at / road tested it - therefore (with the greatest respect to George) - no amount of roller testing will get to the root of the problem. This is effectively a total failure situation... it fully works or fails, and this cannot be replicated to order.

On the information that you were able to provide them, I am appalled that at the very least they did not change the manifold vacuum pipe + one way valve.

I truly believe that they are not taking you seriously, and are being very lapse. In writing, ask both parties are they willing to take on the liabilities for any subsequent brake failure and resulting consequences?

I do also think you should tell both parties that you feel compelled to advise VOSA of your experiances - also making it very clear of your awareness that

reportedly the same thing has apparently happened with polo and audi A1 and A3.

Regardless of the fault not showing whilst in their charge/premises - this is one such occasion where in the interests of safety, components need to be changed. Customers/users do not invent faults, and in this instance need to be believed.

You are right in that Roller Testing.  MOT Standard Efficiency Test will not get to the root of the problem.,

but for the 10 minutes it takes to see that on the rollers there is no issue or the brakes are working there, it is worth doing, (& before taking the car on the Road Test.)

because they have not got to the root of the problem or even found an issue.

Local dealer in Cramlington,  could not find a problem, AA guy says it`s usually ABS censors at fault, all I know is that im driving a car with faulty brakes, skoda uk says they will send me a letter of liability, I don belive them, we shall see...

Take it to another dealer, sounds like a vacuum/servo issue
