PCH. 2 years or 3?

Featured Replies

About to sign on the line for a 6+23 PCH contract but am wondering if 6+35 might be better.

Pros: Lower annual cost overall, less faffing around, could justify option of Canton, certainty of core costs for longer

Cons: longer to wait for the next new toy, risk that I might need to buy new tyres or spend on maintenance

Is your maintenance not included within the PCH?

Tyres, that is an everyday running cost/risk you face, you can get a puncture requiring replacement anytime its not just about wearing a pair of tyres out.

I couldn't be bothered changing so soon as 2 years flies by but upto you.

It'll all depend on your mileage & driving I suppose, but you'd have to expect to do at least 1st service before giving car back over the two year term, and, likely need to replace front pair of tyres - unless you manage wear carefully through rotation - which might make 3 year term more attractive as you may not incur any more maintenance costs over the longer term.

I'm planning on taking over 2 years with a view to requesting extension for a few months whilst I sort out next 'New Toy!

Out of interest what is the difference in monthly rental between 2 & 3 years?

Monthly rental is 222 for 24 months, 232 for 36.

Interesting about the option to extend - that would definitely be worth negotiating at the beginning of the lease.

The other thing is how much to allow to inspect/repair dings prior to return. Perhaps another advantage to 3 years.

Which model are you getting for those prices?

Lease extension is not negotiated at the outset of contract, it's just something I understand skoda finance may agree to on request towards end of deal.

So I (now) understand!

I'm looking at Superb Business 2.0 TDI DSG Hatch + leather 10k miles

Assuming you haven't already adjusted, the actual monthly cost for both those deals is £268 and £270 respectively (adding in the initial payment and dividing back through the term). So both are virtually the same in terms of real cost.

it is also normal for any extension to be based on that 'real' monthly cost rather than the net monthly price you have quoted.

On the Skoda website, if you go into the finance offers section it says 2.9% APR, however if you go onto the finance calculator section under finance it quotes the Superb as £2000 contribution and does it at 2.7% APR

Anyone know which is correct rate, as I wonder if you point out the finance calculator rate to a dealer and say I'll opt for 2.7% as its on the official UK website

I was quoted 2.9%. I guess it might make £100 difference over the term!

Just going back to the 2 vs 3 years, it's fair to assume that interest rates will be higher in 3 years time than they are now - probably between 0.5-1% higher. That would presumably have a big effect on leasing costs, so another reason to go for 3 years.

I'm now thinking that 3 years would be about right for me. Sure, there will be more maintenance costs - perhaps to the tune of £500, but I think I'd struggle to get a lease on a nice car for anything like as low as is being offered now.

Does anyone here know when the first "big service" is with the current Superb? Is it 30,000 miles or 3 years (whichever comes first)? Or are service intervals more complicated these days and left to the whim of the trip computer?!

I thought I would share my deal with you guys.

I wanted a high spec and was in the market for a BMW, Audi or a Merc. I was looking at second hand but all the above are getting new models year. I do approx 30,000 miles a year so I thought I would by a car out right.

Having looked at every possibility it made sense for me to lease a car on PCH for 36 months and set the mileage to 90,000

The figures - £1300 down, then £460 a month for 35 months.

The car - Silver L&K Hatch 150 DSG with Beige interior, extras include sunroof, rear side blinds, metallic paint, paddle shift.

It may seem a lot of money but what will a 3 year old Superb fetch with 90k on the clock? 8-10k maybe? I didn't want to go down the contract purchase route, because I wouldn't want the car at the end. Mostly because I think something newer with more tech will appear on the market.

Even on new car discount they couldn't match this offer even with 23% off the price.

Forget the interest rates etc! Talk to a good Skoda dealer and sit down with them and haggle like mad! Also the excess mileage charge is only 7p a mile inc vat which is the cheapest I've seen any where.

I know people may think it's a lot of money but for a brand new 65 plate, that has more options than the bond car lol! Doing 30k a year it's not such a bad deal!

I don't have a feel about what aspects of the lease are negotiable. I'm getting 15% discount on extras.

It will depend on which engine...Petrol or Dirty Diesel.

Dirty Diesel in my case!
