Octavia VRS FL Tyre Recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Well it looks like the fronts on the Blackline are nearing the end of their life. Not bad really, original tyres and 17000 on the clocks.

Any who they are getting a bit low and I certainly won't trust them going into winter, had a scan through and the uniroyal RS3 seem highly recommended but I've no idea where I would get them/get them fitted.

Any alternatives? I used to have efficient grip and thought they were quite good, my mate got some jintu tyres on his leon and seems impressed with these too.

Cheers for your opinions.

I'll be putting Eagle F1 AS2 or Conti Sportcontact 5 on my VRS when they need it next. "Jintu" is a budget no-name thing and the RS3 is very good in the wet, they do apparently wear quickly in the dry.

There's a SportContact 6 coming out soon if you can wait a few weeks

IMHO, Nexen CP641 upper mid range a good all round tyre, that I have used for the past three years, they just fill me with confidence what ever the weather or road condition.

Unless you are badge conscious and want to pay more for well known brands.

I've just put Michelin PS3's on mine as I know the tyre from other cars and they other great grip, low noise and last well. Vred's are also another favourite. I was tempted by the Uniroyal RS3 too based on feedback from this forum but a Costco offer on the Michelins made it a no brainer for me.

Tyreleader had much better deals than the UK based sites and they will deliver direct to a selection of local tyre fitters.

Eagle F1's for me aswell

The Uniroyal Rainsport's are good. Use them on different vehicles including a Porsche boxster. Got Rainsport 2's on the VRS at the moment but will get the 3's when the current ones need replaced.

Goodyear Eagle F1s. Excellent all round performance, much quieter than the Continentals they replaced, and reasonably priced.

Now had 4 x Eagle F1 AS2 on my car for just over 1000 miles (replaced the original Conti 5s).  At least the equal of the Conti's for grip in the dry and quieter.  In the VERY heavy rain last night the traction and grip was better than I would have expected from the Conti 5s.

The Conti 5s were on the car for almost 31K miles, but in that time I also had winter tyres fitted for around 10K miles.  So the Conti 5s were down to around 3mm after about 21K miles - I had intended to keep them for a little bit longer until my winter tyres went on but an un-repairable puncture in one tyre lead me to change all 4.

As I also use winter tyres I expect the Eagle F1 AS2s to still have a reasonable amount of tread when I change the car in 1 to 1-1/2 years time.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Lots of votes for the eagles so far.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance.

Have had these on the back for circa 20k and they're great, they still have loads of life left too. I've just replaced the Eagle F1 AS2's I had on the front with these as well and the difference is noticeable in terms of noise.

Very quiet tyre, great in the wet, great wet braking, positive difference to MPG, good driving feel. There's no downside to them that I can find.

 +1 for F1 A2's

I had unbranded budgets on the rear of mine, extremely durable, but hardly ever gripped the road either. Swapped them out for rs3s and think they're great, great traction in wet, very comfortable ride quality too. Then when my fronts worn out I changed to vredestein vorti s which are also a great tyre, haven't a bad word to say about either.

Oops apologies double post!

I would also add that the RS3s were great and didn't flinch under circumstances which may induce aquaplaning. However, the vredes maybe have the edge in all round traction 'feel'.
