will an ARL engine fit in VRS?

Featured Replies

hi:)

i may be able to get my hands on a cheap pd150 ARL engine and running gear with lowish mileage, my vrs is now on 160k and has headgasket problems and a slight rattle is starting from the clutch. so i'm looking for alternatives to head rebuilds etc.

does anyone know if the block and head are the same on the ASZ & ARL? i'm pretty sure i've read before they are pretty much the same engine.

i've changed engines/cylinder heads/gearboxes before so have no issues with doing the physical swap.

many thanks for your time

Should be a straight swap, some plugs for the auxiliaries might be different but chances are a straight swap.

The Golf engines have a different oil housing on them. Hence you need to make sure that comes with the engine! As the Fabia one has a different mating face so will physically not fit on.

It's fine to use the Golf one. It just sticks out further and doesn't have a socket head on to remove the oil filter cover.

Water pump is different, oil feed off the housing is different, crank and cam sensor wiring are shorter/different location

But yes it will fit

Is the engine mount in the same place too?

You have swap over all the cambelt covers and backing plates and alloy plates

Would probably be easier to just use the turbo and get it mapped
