factory fit towbar & 13pin electrics

Featured Replies

Hi all, we've just ordered a new yeti (facelift2015)also the towbar etc, after doing a search on here and not finding any posts newer than 2013 can I assume that the problem of no atc and fridge supply has been sorted? Many thanks in advance for your help tre4.

I have a 2110 Octavia with factory fitted towbar and electrics and have never come across the problems that you mentioned. Everything works as it should. I bought a twin adaptor to plug into the two sockets of caravan. The only thing that I have fitted extra is spilt charging relay to charge caravan battery whilst on the move.

I have a 2014 facelift Yeti with factory fit towbar and it does power the ATC. It will not charge the battery or power the fridge. As dustrat says split charging, if you want it, has to be fitted after delivery. I reckon it's not worth it for the fridge or the battery charging - it is quite expensive to get the extra wiring done and the fitter has to take up carpets etc to run the cable. The main thing for me was powering the ATC on my new van and that works fine.

I posted several times in 2014 whilst awaiting collection of a new Yeti. I wanted factory fit as the price was very good, but the 13 pin did not include fridge or battery charging. I believe this issue may have now been resolved, but you must get this clarrified by the supplying dealer, before you get a build week.

If it has not, different supplying dealers approch the lack of "full functionality" in different ways. Some will add to the factory fitted electrics, others will ship it out to a towbar specialist, some will say they want to do everything from scratch at the dealership. My dealer did the last option and I paid £700. I have been told this is a competitive price for a Skoda dealership, as the price would be in excess of £900.

If you are not intersted in fridge or caravan battery power go with the factory fit, no matter what.

I would check because I have known in the past there has been a disclaimer in the brochure stating that the factory installation doesn't support split charging, I would double check with tyour dealer and make it a condition of sale if that is what you need. Most dealers will farm out the towbar and electrics installation anyway but charge you over the odds for the privilege. The OP doesn't state where in the UK he is but I can wholly recommend a specialist at Horndean in Hampshire. I have taken my last 2 cars there to get the full functionality electrics. The last one for the Yeti cost about £600 for a removable set up with twin electrics, split charging and the removable cover.

This is from the most up to date Brochure (July 2015).
""Towbar, removable and lockable Provides a single electrics solution - unsuitable for split charging*
Only available in combination with temporary space-saver spare wheel on L&K.
Includes raised boot floor.

Hi had problems with my wiring, 7 Pin for Van + Anderson Plug for Fridge/Freezer.

Battery was being drained Flat, after 2/3days of non-use

Auto Electrician found that connections had been made to Battery not the Ignition Switch,

as Battery is always live it drained it, now has been wired to the Ignition when I turn Yeti Motor off,

my Solar panels on the Van now automatically take over.

Hope this helps as I've post the same before.

Another consideration for if/when you get full/fridge electrics is when the feed is live. On previous cars the feed has only been live when the engine is running. On my Yeti it is when t.he ignition is live. The engine does not need to be running. I questioned this point with Skoda and they said the vehicle was wired correctly.

Hi and thank you all for the info my main concern was with the atc secondary was the fridge power and finally the battery charging, my mind is quite settled now.

Thanks again

Tree.

Err?

Why would you leave the ignition turned on without the engine running?

TBH, I gave up wiring a split charge/fridge relay system years ago. It gave hardly any charge to the battery and didn't cool the fridge down, just kept it at a constant temperature. We found that a couple of packets of frozen things and a bottles of cold beer and wine did just as well, especially when we had a 6 hour ferry crossing. Our European caravanners haven't bothered with the system at all!
