Hot start problems

Featured Replies

Hi my octavia starts fantastic on a morning but when the engine is hot its is a little more reluctant, I can loose count how many times it can turn over before firing. I've just have my camshaft changed and all the pots and my injectors all set up again but still the problem is still there.

It's got 375000 miles on it.

Many thanks sara

Probably the battery - this commonly causes hot start problems on the Octavia.

The battery is a new one

possibly starter motor if the battery is ok

Mmmm.... It's cranking ok. It's got me and my mechanic baffled

Is it diesel or petrol?

My last diesel car had a similar problem and I thought it was the battery and it appeared to be cranking ok too , I changed the battery - no difference , changed the starter motor - started first time every time , it may seem it is cranking ok but I think diesel engines need the initial cranking inertia to compress the fuel and a starter motor that is worn may not give that start up compression.

When cold fuel is injected into the engine straight away making starting easier. As a safety feature when warm a certain minimum turn over speed (300rpm?) must be met before fuel is supplied to the engine. If the battery or starter motor is week then it is harder to meet this warm start requirement so car is harder to start.
