Help please: starting problem no response to ignition

Featured Replies

Starting problem with 2005 Fabia VRS. Electrics all working fine, newish battery charged, and charging (when I can get the car started). No response to ignition at all: not attempting to turn over.

Happened for first time yesterday. First try of day nothing. Second try started fine. Third time nothing. I ended up taking battery out, charging it and putting it back in. Started fine. Then this morning nothing. Battery still at 12.7v.

Any ideas?

I would start by checking the starter solenoid  does it click and is it actually getting 12v when you are trying to start ?

I had this, the  cable that goes into the solenoid of the starter motor had blown apart.

I had to cut the cable and extend it to get it onto the plug and re solder then I had to chocolate block the cables back together as there just was not enough room to solder it.

The original cable was quite tight from the loom and thats why I extended it.

All fixed now thanks to the advice o here and on the Facebook group. Was the little red wire to the starter. The solder joint inside the black clip had failed, wire still flapping around inside so intermittent fault. Royal pain to fix, had to drill a hole in the side of the clip to get access with my soldering iron. Then soldering a joint in the engine bay was not easy. Almost 3 hours well spent!

Get the purple clip out through the slot in the side, then use a handy beer/champagne/whatever wire to push the crimp and contact out the back. White thing is a seal/bung as is the orange.
