Smoke off boost

Featured Replies

Had a search and loads of people talk about smoke when giving the car some stick but I'm getting smoke when I put my foot flat to the floor in the wrong gear... Say fourth at 20 mph... If I put my boot in then it'll smoke up until its properly up and moving at full boost.

I believe it's black smoke as a mate followed me the one time and I asked if it was blue and he said not.

Is it remapped? If so its due to the smoke map being set rich.

No not remapped that I know of. Doesn't feel it.

Why do you boot it in the wrong gear it wont do your dmf any good.

I don't really, its just something I've noticed when it has occasionally happened and now I've tried to recreate it a few times

I do not believe you have a problem.  This is unburnt diesel due to too much fuel for the engine speed.

Drive it properly and it will not happen.

You will also probably notice smoke when you give the enginge some stick, in the right gear, at night in the head lights of a car following you.

I agree that its probably caused by too much fuel for the air avaialable but not convinced this is normal if it hasn't been re-mapped.

The point of the ecu map is to provide enough fuel for the available air - based on revs & boost pressure. The standard map is a bit conservative so should not smoke. A remap increases the fuelling almost to the point of smoking. Possible causes for your problem would include boost pressure leak and/or partially clogged intake tract - manifold etc.
