recommendations for indy garage near Knottingley, West Yorkshire

Featured Replies

The skip has been off the road for a few months (like I have been offline) but had to be insured etc where we relocated to Knottingley, West Yorkshire.

It is in dire need of some TLC that I don't have the time for so looking for a garage with a good rep (don't know anyone that likes being ripped off :D) and that knows modified VAG stuff so I don't have to explain everything twice.

Also anyone recommend a good exhaust fabricator as its on its last hanger and is going to drop at some point :D  I would have used ProSpeed in Cardiff for a full stainless system but the move was too quick to get it sorted and I want to be sure of the other issues first.

Hiya mate I'm only in pontefract and I have had the same issues. You will struggle to find anyone who deals with modded stuff around here. Palmers in pontefract have a good reputation and there is a vag so called specialist in castleford but I walked straight back out of the place once I saw the state of there workshop. I generally don't trust anyone working on my car apart from me or my mate who is a master tecnition .

Can't help you with a garage mate, but for your exhaust I'd recommend Tony Banks in Leeds. He made me a full "turbo-back" system for mine about 2 yrs ago and I can't fault the exhaust or the service.

I've used Palmers on Midland Road for over 10 years now. They've always done a good job and had no problems resolving the couple of issues I've had. They always do all my MOTs.

If you can go to Leeds, Sultas (http://sultas.co.uk/) are a VAG specialist I have also used a number of time.

Oh local thread,

What does it want doing to it apart from exhaust???

It's been a bit neglected of recent as I am mostly working from home or on the train into London.

I did put it into a garage in Bridgend to have some jobs done but not sure they got it right so I have a suspected front left wheel bearing and a click/ticking from the front right. (I suspected driveshaft but it's still there after having it and a bearing done although I suspect they may have got the jobs the wrong way round :-() the lack of use meant I didn't find out about it straight away otherwise I would have gone back, they have been great with all other work before though so not going to bad mouth them..

saggy exhaust as the hangers are rotting off one by one.

The back box heat shield has rotted and dropped so it rattles a lot :D.

First gear is a bit difficult and all the videos I have found so far are for the five speed, (the skip has a 6spd O2M from an S3)

Oil leak from the rocker cover but not a lot so keeps getting ignored.

Starting to get compressor stall noises more often now (but have had them for years already) so possibly time for a hybrid rebuild :D

Rust patches starting so need to treat them with something to stop it getting worse, not bothered about the looks hence "the skip"

I do need to get a decent map on it and was hoping for an r-tech but they won't touch it with LPG system in place. My current map does like limp mode when you need it least.

It is too much of a good car to get rid and I have recently solved a major water leak problem which would have led to me selling/scrapping. 210bhp in a 4x4 hatch that is cavernous running on LPG with a selection of useful mods is a hard act to follow and the only other vehicle I would consider is a newer 1.8t(tsi) from vag with 4x4/Quattro/4motion like a superb possibly but they are very rare..
