Worth paying the nav?

Featured Replies

Hi!! This is my first post on this forum. My name's GuillBS and I'm from Spain.

I'm about to get my first ever car and it's going to be the Fabia obiously ahahahh. Before getting it I want to ask some questions to you, because you seem to know a lot about cars and the Fabia.

First question:

Should I get the standard radio called "Bolero", at least in Spain, or pay the extra cost and get the "Amudsen" nav? In my family we don't have good expiriences with pre-installed navs so, what should I do?

Second question:

I've seen that mirrorlink tecnhology is not really good however should I get it? Also are they going to update to android auto??

Third and final question:

Does the Fabia got cruise control? I know it has the Speed Limiter but cruise control??

Thank you all for taking the time to read it.

Hello welcome to the forum. I've got a standard monte carlo and I use android auto and Google maps which works fine for me. So I don't see an use for upgrading to the sat nav

I think the issues with the mirrorlink were pre 22 week builds I don't have any issues with mirrorlink however I don't use it only use android auto

To your third question it can come with cruise if you pay the extra and have it as an option if not it only comes with speed limiter which can come in handy I've used it alot :)

Hi if you get the Fabia SEL version it comes with cruise and speed limiter control and if you are buying a factory made car after week 22 it has Mirrorlink , Apple car play and Android Auto but you will need a suitable phone to run Android Auto on the Bolero.

If you get the SE version you can add the cruise control, you won't get the centre armrest but I very rarely use mine as it gets in the way of the hand break though ok on a long motorway journey.

If you want a real spare wheel get it factory fitted as its about half the price of buying it later from the dealer.

Just double check everything you expect to come with the car I ordered mine and thought the SEL had heated seats realised after I got home they were extra went back the next day but could not change the order as the car was already on the production run Joe

The differences in standard equipment is big depending on which country you buy the car from, so be sure to check with your dealer. I bought the ambition model in Denmark and heated seats, cruise control and front assist where all included. But smartlink was not, I paid 240£ for that. Regarding the satnav, I find the android auto working great for me.

Thank you for all the answers, I'm gonna go back to my dealer and talk to him about all I've asked.

I'm pretty sure there's no cruise control in Spain and that is a shame...

Thank you all again!!

I just hope that the way the route maps are controlled or authorised for use in Spain are better than they are in UK, for example, I have a portable TomTom with latest maps and drove from outside Edinburgh to Alnwick, just because I had the sat nat with me to let it guide me home. Now from previous experience of using this sat nav, I do know that it avoids traffic jams etc, so I just used the routes it was giving me, that involved driving along quite a few roads with grass growing in the centre of them and through farm yards, well roads that were being used as farm yards. That was a bit annoying and judging by the cars I found stationary on parts of these roads, quite a few people were using sat navs and stopping to check maps and looking lost.

In general I have no problems with the concept of sat nav guided driving, what I do question is that some rural routes, and maybe others, should only be used "for access" and not for long distance routing, I think that that makes more sense.  Another example, we went to spend a weekend break in a rural holiday resort, the resort site clearly stated "if travelling by sat nav stop using it after a certain point as it will route you over a dangerous mountain pass" - I would not think that sorting a lot of that out is beyond the means of TomTom/Garmin/etc - the thing is, with a portable sat nav if and when these problems are corrected, they are done free of charge, with an integrated sat nav you would need to pay for future updates.
