VRS Front Ashtray Cover

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've done a seach and could not find any, but has anyone got a guide on how to fix the ash tray cover? Mines just popped open and now does not shut. I've taken the ash tray out to look at any broken bits but could not see any. There is a hole behind the left side of the cog so something may have fallen off..

It's annoying me and i can not stand it! If there are any guru's out there that can point me towards an easy  quick fix I'd be their friend forever! Thanks.

If its the same centre console as the 4x4 petrol try manipulating the plastic between the ashtray and gearstick to pin the cover closed. Mine is stuck down by it and i have to fettle with it to get it to open but it won't stay open..

I have fixed mine by removing the tray, dismantling the lid, drilling off the lug on the mechanism and replacing it with a 4mm long end from a pop rivet into the hole. Once secured with some araldite and reassembled it is job done.

There are several threads on here on this, if I can find one with piccies I'll post it up.

Edit - this is the best I could find at moment - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/160665-ash-tray-not-staying-shut/?hl=%2Bash+%2Btray#entry1975272
