Gerlach Exhaust system 1.4 TDI

Featured Replies

I am finally having to replace the exhaust system on my Fabia 1.4 TDI 75, it's lasted since 2004, brilliant.

Looking on Ebay there are some German systems made by Gerlach - Very cheap in price.

Has anyone fitted any of these ?

What's the quality like ?

Any other reccommendations ?

I recently bought a german pattern back box for the tdi - estate version. as below

I haven't had it on long but it seems solid enough and went on without problem and the price was good. I believe diesels give exhausts an easy time because there is no sulphur in the fuel and hence acid in the exhaust fumes so I was prepared to go with a cheap box.

The OE replacement box requires you to cut out the original box (it is all in one) and then buy a coupling which wraps around the two pipes you need to join. The coupler costs between 13 (ebay) and 18 (dealer) so this needs to be factored into any cost comparison. The pattern back box I bought had the last 2 inches swaged out so that the other pipe fits inside and you just put a 55mm clamp (£1.20 !) to keep them together - plus a bit of exhaust goo.
