O2 users beware - Online security warning

Featured Replies

having not used my online O2 account for viewing my bill etc. for around 6 months, I just tried to log in.

Certain my user name was "xyz" ;) I entered my password. It regected the password so I asked for a hint. The system asked what my favourite coulur was so I answered - correctly.

The O2 system then happily asked for a mobile number to send the password to - I entered my number and was sent a text.

Now logged in it became apparent that I had logged into someone elses account!

My user name is not "xyz" but is "wxyz" - just one letter different. The O2 system had happily sent the password for Mr Paul Gooch's account to a mobile number belonging to a Mr Phil Gooch.

I guess it was just coincidence that we both share the same favourite colour but I suggest that you do not use this as your hint question - use your mother's maided name, for example.

I have emailed Paul Gooch with his "new" password as I thought he'd struggle logging in wthout it.

You have been warned

can you not send some dirty texts from his number??

a freakish coincidence.

i use something a bit more unique than my mothers maiden name.....smith is a little too easy..........lol

My mother's maiden name is a little more tricky than that - there are only about a dozen people in the whole country with the name !
