VW Wheels

I've been offered a set of new shape 17" beetle alloys but they have 215x45x17 tyres on, i know the Fabia should have 40 profiles but will the 45s fit with a 215 width?

I would hve thought they will physically fit but will throw your speedo out

If your cars lowered below standard they will rub.

If your cars lowered below standard they will rub.

I was assuming it wasnt by the lack of suspension mods in the sig ;)

I tried this size with eibachs on, rubbed on wheel arch with very little lock on, didn't even try the rears.

Nope it's not lowered - i find it hard to understand how an extra 5mm in height can make such a difference (rubbing) - what if i fitted spacers to bring the wheels out a tad?

Its not 5mm difference.

215/40 = 86mm

215/45 = 96. 75mm

Thats nearly 11mm difference

AH i see  - would spacers help at all or are the tyres too tall for the arches?

I thought the problem might be rubbing on the inner arches/ shocks?

The tyres are to big in diameter so spacers aint gonna help.

Why not just get the correct tyres?

the wheels have new goodyear 215/45s already fitted - the wheels are off a delivery mileage Beetle which has had 18s fitted and i thought the 17s were nice looking - ah well i'm not swapping tyres so i'll let them go :(

Thanks for the help :)

Wait, I have 225/45 16 tyres on mine, and in the rear I have 12mm spacers. I don't suffer any rubbing, AND I dropped the car , so why would 215/45 rub??

Thanks for that Mil then maybe they wont rub, but they still are the incorrect sized tyre for the car as you know. :)

If the tyres are brand new why not swap them and sell the orginals on?

Oh yeah...I KNOW...my performance has been affected & I also know my speedo is out because the radar din't flash me yesterday when I was at 122km/h, and it will usually flash at 121km/h.

I think it's a bit more than 11mm.

Std. Fabia vRS runs on 16s, so there's an extra 25.4mm in the wheel diameter too.

205/45x16s v 215/45x17s = 34mm bigger diameter. Plus the tyres are wider, so may rub on the outside arches.
