How do you turn off that b...dy spanner ?

Can't remember off the top of my head but if you have your manual it should say in there? Or failing that do a google search on this site with your query and it should bring up an answer. 

 

It's something to do with the trip reset button, it can be turned to the left or right for so many seconds with the key in a certain position (I know that's of zero help but at least it points you in the right direction lol).

If you have a vagcom interface and a laptop it has a sri reset option. It is a 5 seconds job.

I had a mechanic print off a piece if paper from autodata.

It says for an oil service you have to press and hold button A (which the little knob just to the left of your milage counter)

Switch ignition on

Release button A as soon as the letters OIL appear in the odometer display

Turn button A to the right until the letters disappear.

Turn ignition off

For inspection service

Press and hold button A

Switch ignition on

Release button A as soon as the letters OIL appear

Press and hold button A again

Release button A as soon as the letters INSP appear in the odometer display

Turn button A to the right until the letters ate replaced with ----

Switch ignition off.

Doesn't always work like that but I've always managed to turn it off so have a bit of a fiddle.
