Dash cam fitting.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

To start with I am running a 2008 pre facelift octavia VRs.

I have just bought myself a dash cam set which i am really happy about but my question is about fitting the rear camera.....

The front went in sound no problems but when it comes to the rear i am a little scared.

Has anyone fitted one of these and could give me some tips or even if you are close come and help me fit it?

I live in blyth nottinghamshire post code S81 8EJ

I don't mind traveling if someone is willing to help out.

Few pics of the front for everyone :-)

Many thanks

Tom.

When i fitted my rear camera i could not find a permanent live anywhere in the tailgate wiring, the only permanent live i could find was in the wiring to the back of the cd multichanger so i had to run a wire from that into the tailgate, easy enough but a bit fiddly getting it through the rubber cover that protects the original wiring loom that runs from the car to the tailgate.

Mike, the camera's i fitted required a permanent live,a lgnition live & a earth, not sure why but they do & wont work without them, they have been fitted 6 months now & have had no problems with battery drain & they do turn off after 5 seconds when the car is switched off. They are cheap ones off ebay but work fine & the quality is good.

Is it for motion detection?

.. I did try using the reverse light, but being controlled by the canbus, it was a "dirty" source and the picture quality was horrendous.

Mine's powered from the reverse light and the picture is perfect, so maybe something else was causing your "dirty" source, or maybe it's just down to individual cars, like with HID's. Mine hated them!!

If all you need to do is run a cable from the front camera to the rear one cant you just run the cable inside the headlining above the doors from camera to camera, you should not need to remove any trim.

You can run the cable in the trim until you reach the back of the rear door then you need to go throught the trim unless you want wires showing :-(
