New to diesel. Tuning - Remap options ?

Featured Replies

I hope that this is the correct page to ask this somewhat rambling question, if not then perhaps some kind mod will move it. Thanks.

Never owned a diesel but seriously thinking about a 4wd from the VAG group with the VAG Haldex system, possibly Scout/Seat or Audi  so a basic question on diesel tuning.

What are the options for getting more 'get up and go' from the VW 2.0 tdi 180ps lump ?

Let's say a car about 1-2 yrs old, 10k miles so all nicely run in.
I have seen that there is a plug-in chip available but wouldn't it be better/safer to have a complete rolling road remap of the ecu and a few selected mods i.e. exhaust/air intake/ boost controller etc at the same time  - this is what I have done on my Mitsubishi.

I know that the particle filter removal in the exhaust is well advised and the removal of associated software and as I want an auto box then I believe that these also can be remapped.
Then what could be safely achieved, a sensible remap with-in the capabilities of the engine and auto gearbox. Upto 220bhp seems to be a common  figure and a lot more torque but how does it feel to drive ? Do you get the power to "get past" within the 30 to 80mph range ? For example my Lancer Sportback (awd and 311bhp) can be a very quick car so how would a remapped diesel compare ?
All a bit vague but any pointers would be appreciated.
Cheers and thanks.

Someone like Shark Performance (other tuners will be similar) will add a good 30+BHP to the car, the car will be equally as smooth BUT drive much better (not to mention the fuel consumption will be slightly better) they really do transform the TDi’s

The DSG box can also be remapped.

The DPF can be remove / gutted... but may fail the MOT, just so you are aware.

Will it have sufficient power to go from 30 - 80mph effortlessly? ... OH YES
