Bad idea Skoda!

Featured Replies

At this time of year anyway.

It really isn't a good idea to have wipers that after the 'wash and wipe' bit then wait a few seconds and wipe again.

By then more muck has been speckled up onto the screen, just in time for the dealayed 'dry wipe' that Skoda thought was a good idea. Result: those hundreds of small spots are spread over the screen in lovely arcs!

And it must wear wiper blades and scraping grit over the windscreen can't do it any good either.

I thought at first how novel to clear any excess away, now it is just annoying.

Rant over

cant say I have an issue with the fabia, I've always thought it clears the screen very well.

No no problem here.

Suffering from S.A.D. maybe??

I think he's talking about the feature of the new Fabias where a few seconds after doing a wash/wipe, the car automatically does another "dry" wipe.

Chris

All VAG do it.

Providing you use enough spray to get rid off the crap on your screen then it wont smear on the dry wipe as there's nothing to smear, simple :D !!

New wiper blades help a LOT too.

oic, I take it's something the older fabia's dont have.

If so then I retract my statement lol :o

Introduced as part of the facelift along with the silly indicators ;) Mondeo has it too, and I'm trying to find a way to switch it off lol!

The car is only 2 months old, so i don't know if older cars have the 'feature' or not.

I do mostly motorway miles on the commute and the wagons lift loads of c**p, especially with all the grit going down at this time.

No matter how much water is sprayed first, the delayed dry wipe allows more muck to be deposited on the screen, then it wipes.

Either you all drive on cleaner roads or ???????????

Mine Does it and it Pi55es me off summat chronic! Especially when following another vehicle......

Spray the screen, 3 wipes nice and clear.......vehicle in front sprays up a bit of road 5hite, final wipe comes and smears it all over the screen!

Cheers for that :(

If you really dont like it, isn't there some vagcom option to turn it off?

I stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure there isn't :(

octy doesnt have it but a loan golf i drove did and at that time of the year i found it useful, i can understand how its a pain at this time of the year though with the roads being crap.

on the subject of bad ideas though, i had the hose that feeds the rear wash pump pop off the other night so the water that was pumped from the bottle at the front just sprayed into the boot and soaked the grab handle and boot carpet near the hatch... took the inner panel off to find there isnt even a clip to hold the hose in place. its just prime to pop off at anything other than low pressure. a big blob of super glue has held it up to yet but i'm now loathed to use the rear wash incase it pops again in anything lower than 5degrees...

Empty your screenwash bottle and put in some decent screenwash at a suitable concentration for winter - should sort it...

when my car was int Stealers on Monday, I asked then.......:thumbdwn:

Bu66er!

It's annoying sometimes, particularly yesterday, for some reason i had to wash/wipe my screen at least every 5 minutes. Roads were very dirty yesterday round leicestershire.

Easy solution I have found with my 05 Fabia vRS is when the wipers "park" after the third wipe just flick the wipers manually and you dont get the delayed wipe and no smeared spots

I think it works well. I had this function on my Megane BUT sometimes it decided not to wipe again.

Spot on

My polo does this too. Another thing I hate is that the first wipe usually starts too soon so you barely get enough screenwash esp. if the windscreen has dry dirt on it.. Not very good since the dry crap on the edges gets smearead against the glass until you get enough screenwash for maybe the second or third wipe.. I'd prefer if pulling the lever would just add screenwash and you could control the wipers normally.. oh well, I guess scratching the windscreen can't be prevented forever.. :(

Just came on to post about these 2 problems, and glad i did a search for this topic - both the wiper problem and the indicator things are really p*ssing me off! Can't do the old 'indicate one side then the other' thing to say 'thanks for letting me into your lane'. but then again i'll have probably drifted back into the other lane because i can't see through the crap smeared wiindscreen anyway..:D

My new comany focus has the same wiper and indicator problem as well. Does **** me off in this weather wiping the screen again and again. Can get the indicators to flash once but not everytime. Shift lights good though :D

No, no, you're right, it's bothering me too - on the one hand it's great that it's automated and one tug of the lever and it does the rest.

On the other hand, these automatic systems on some cars go nuts and empty half the reservoir in one enormous blast of spray that produces a cloud of mist to spoil everyone behind you's windows too.
