Yeti sounds!

Featured Replies

Just got a new MY16 yeti L&K and added 12 speaker system. It's still not as good as my Leon FR's system with factory upgrade. Lacking oomph. Was thinking of adding spare wheel well sub or under seat sub. Anyone done this? Routing of power wire from battery? Are there rca's on back of head unit? Please!

Lacking oomph? I think you have not set it up right!

Ours has sooo much oompth that a subwoofer would be a complete waste.

It's prob loud enough but add any bass and the distortion from the woofers, especially the rear doors, is terrible.

Did you add the upgrade or is it the factory fitted one.

If factory fitted you need to get it sorted at the dealer, it should sound better than that.

Factory speakers usually are.

I changed out the front plastic horrible cheap things (even the basket is plastic, and the ICE specialist i used told me all VAG ones are the same) in my fabia for some nice Audison Primas. Couple of hours job and it sounds soo much better.

More of everything. More clarity, more bottom end, more depth, but less harsh on your ears too.

Well happy with them tbh.

I think the stock Yeti system, at least in the 2015 L&K I've been in (mine hasn't arrived yet) sounds pretty decent for a factory system. Certainly had worse in my 2008 Scirocco despite being technically very similar and even my SEAT Exeo with Bose set-up didn't particularly sound much better. I'm not sure about the 12-speaker set up but as far as I can tell it just adds mid-drivers so I can't see how you gain that much from it, the bass will have all the same limitations as the standard system.

Is the Bose system actually proper bose though?

I was reading a car stereo mag, and they reckoned all the badged up Bose, B&O, Harmon Karden etc set ups are only a little better than standard, but mainly a badge and if you take them out their equally cheap manufacturing shows still.

It's definitely a re-badge job, throw a more powerful amp and a small sub in the boot basically. I think they were the same speaker cones with slightly larger magnets (which in itself doesn't actually mean they'll be better, could actually sound worse!). That's why I quite liked the Yeti system I heard, the basics are ok, enough bass, enough power, not harsh but with decent clarity - main car system boxes all ticked!

The factory speakers on the 12 speaker system are bloody excellent. This is coming from someone who has a sub fitted in his other car and has had subs in pretty much every previous car and also has a £5000 separates hifi at home.

If yours are distorting then there is a problem with them. Take them back to the dealer and get them sorted.
