Traction, abs, handbrake, power steering and sometimes flashing fuel light

Featured Replies

As title although the flashing fuel light has only happened accompanying the other lights on one occasion. And the p/s light on two occasions

They all came on apart from flashing fuel light one day mid driving. Then went away when restarted the car.

Since I have started the car about three times on separate occasions where the lights have immediately come on accompanied by a beep. Again when turned of and on they are gone.

Steering stays the same, all clocks on the dash work etc but I lose abs.

Start by checking the battery, and that you're getting charge across it on start up.

You're looking for 12v engine off, and about 14.4v idling with everything off. If the engine off reading is 10.5v or less you have a bad battery, and if that's 12v but you don't get the 14.4v then either the alternator is failing or the drive clutch is sticking open.

Tested the battery today and it got 11.96 while off and 14 something while on.

The 14v seems ok (indicates that the alternator is working fine), but the 11.96 when off is a little on the low side, should probably be 12.5-12.75 I think when new, so your battery may be getting a little old.

The reading's not REALLY low though, I personally wouldn't think it would cause your symptoms, but you should bank on needing a new battery this winter at some point.

Above is exactly what I had, car runnign had 14.xV and without had 12.75V but this was just dropping.

Replaced battery and everything has been running perfectly (even starts better now)
