I think the ignition barrel could be worn a bit  Im after a new key anyway, so enquired about getting a new ignition fitted and key coded at same time.

 

They said best price they could do it for was £210, I thought that wasn't bad, not sure how easy it is to  swap them over, for a new key alone around £130 with code

 

they effectively told me I was getting key coded for free as car was in workshop

 

was going to go down route of auto locksmith but that was £100 and prefer to go dealer mode for key

The keys are not actually that expensive, but the coding bit is. That's probably why the cost isn't massive. The car is in the workshop anyway so they can do the barrel and the key at the same time.

the key  fob was £77 pound  not too bad as dads vw fob was £140 without programming.
