I fear my turbo may have just blown

Featured Replies

I went out to my Octavia this morning and tried turning it over but the battery was dead. I put the battery on charge and it's been on charge all day until about 30 mins ago when I went to the car again and it started no problem.

Anyway after letting it run for a bit I started to rev it a bit but when the revs got higher it spluttered and kind of died but was still running, it then started smoking quite excessively. I tried to rev it again but it really struggled and when I let off the throttle there was a chattering sound, by now the smoke is really bad.

Blown turbo maybe? Or I've just had a thought, maybe just a boost pipe blown off? I'm really hoping it's not a blown turbo, I only bought the car at the beginning of the week.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

It's an 02 plate 110 tdi btw

What colours the smoke mate? Be careful it dont over run being a diesel if its the oil seals. Best pull the inlet off and give the turbine a wiggle, I wouldnt start it again if you think it maybe the oil seals

check the boost pipes,. it does sound like it could be related to that.

I started it again this morning and it was fine, ran as it should. I checked the boost pipes before hand and they all seemed good.

I let it run for a while to warm it up and then gave it a Rev and the same happened again, I think maybe when it gets to a certain revs it's going by into limp mode? It would have been around be 3500+rpm. I turned it off straight away.

I'm not sure what colour the smoke was last night as it was dark but id say it was black and had a strong diesel smell to it, it was still a bit smelly this morning but not nearly as smokey.

I'm going to have it scanned and see what comes up and take it from there.

Is it something like this

Darks usually over fueling or should I say under air supplying, doubt its oil seals

It smoked far worse than that.

I've had it scanned now and it threw up the CTS the MAF and the dreaded 17965 Charge Pressure Control so it seems I've got a few things to get busy with and I'm pretty relieved to say the least. I don't want my cheap winter hack turning into a money pit.
