Pocket Neo Geo

Featured Replies

Does anyone own or has owned one in the past?

How good are they in comparison to the PSP and DS

Well it dates from 1999.

It has a 45x48mm TFT LCD with 160 x 152 resolution, capable of 146 colours from a 4096 pallete.

A 16bit Toshiba TLCS900H running at 6Mhz is the CPU with a support Z80 CPU for sound.

A whole 16k of RAM split into 12k for the main CPU and 4k for the Z80, with a 64K boot ROM.

Cartridges can be up to a max 2 MB (or 16 Mbit)

It's supposed to run for 40 hours on 2 AA batteries - better than the PSP then ;) - and has a lithium cell backed-up memory and clock (a clock and diary application is available when no game plugged in).

PacMan on it is very good, majority of the games released were quite playable, all are the 'sprite' type 2D games. Metal Slug is excellent (it is on all platforms).

Haven't ran mine up for a few years.

They are occasionally for sale in low-cost pound shops and the like all in a blister pack with six games.

Comparable with the Gameboy Color really rather than the current handhelds for sale.

If you want something a bit different to the PSP or DS look at the GP32 http://www.gbax.com/

You can get a Neo Geo Emulator for the PSP ;)

I love my PSP.

Neo Geo Pocket is retro cool  Metal Slug is awesome.
