This might seem a silly question because there are videos and explanations across the web except, I've looked at them and still can't get the *@£$!&* Bolero radio/stereo out.

 

I've removed the fascias and I've removed the 4 torx screws at the corners of the radio and it still won't budge. And it's not a case of being tight or a wire caught - it is definitely locked solid, won't move even 1/2 mm. I can't see any other screws - it feels as though there are several more screws still holding it. I've poked down various slots with hacksaw blades in case there's a release latch somewhere but if there is, I can't find it.

 

There's not a locking bolt hidden away in the glove compartment or engine compartment by any chance? Or underneath and behind the ventilation controls ... ?

 

It's a 2011 Octavia SE 1.6 TDi

There should be no release catch or any more than the four screw. It should just slide out like this one did:

Recently changed mine and found that it was a bit stiff on the first attempt to move it. A bit of bravery and it started to move. I had to wiggle it side-to-side after about an inch or so as it seemed to jam there but it did eventually come out. Yours should too!

Try removing the top dash storage box above the stereo. Think it just pops out from memory.

Should be able to then push the stereo from behind.
