My fuel consumption

Featured Replies

I know that this will bring on comments of "snake oil" but the figures say quite a lot in my opinion. I did 3 fill ups on the fuelly site, when I filled up the second time I added some Archoil AR6400 and some Archoil AR6200. I don't know if you are meant to add them at the same time but I did, I have driven the same routes which are mixtures of town and motorway and my driving style has not changed, I have filled up for the third time tonight and the fuel consumption has changed loads according to fuelly. The question is how can this "additive" "snake oil" achieve these results ?

Some fuel additives do work such as archoil as they contain more advance additives that help to keep your fuel system clean. I would say part of you mpg gain is just restoring to what you would of got when your car was new and free from carbon deposits and the other gain is from the fuel being burnt more efficiently.

Also some oil additives have been found to work by breaking down the base viscosity of the oil so that you use less power moving oil round the engine but also get less lubrication.

EG.

Volkswagen Group Technicians taking Euro 6 TDI Engine vehicles to EU Testing and putting Diesel in the Engine Oil

and getting 'Irregularities' / 'Implausibly' Results and Certification.

*Allegedly according to 'Internal Investigations'. *

That is by Volkswagen who 'Never knew such a thing would be done in their name!'.

I use bg244 which is similar to archoil and there is a real benefit in my opinion , runs smoother quieter and more mpg

The first thing that I noticed was the engine was quieter and as you say smoother, I first thought that it might have been a placebo effect until I saw my mpg so I think I may keep using this about once a month.

I think something is wrong - according to Fuelly on you last fill up you did 89.8 mpg   - despite the Archoil sounds far too good to be true - you put in 24.571 litres for 485 miles. Sounds like you weren't full - When you fill up again use a different pump (make sure your are full) and the figures should correct themselves eventually.

I'm using spirit monitor to follow my mpg and can have varying figures depending on the pump used ( I only fill up to first click as on a petrol it's bad to overfill apparantley- I once threw a code! - on my old diesel I used to fill right up) -  it should average out over a few fills

So, how much does all this stuff cost, compared to the cost of fuel to get the same increased number of miles covered?

Bg244 is £20 and done once every 10k miles its not really used for extra mpg.although this is a by product , its a cleaner which cleans fuel lines egr and other ancillaries which come in contact with it , the injectors are cleaned of carbon and re-establish the better spray pattern

According to the fuel guage (which is probably wrong) the car was about half full (or half empty) when I refuelled. I fill it up till it cannot take anymore but I do recall that the pump kept cutting out at about 20 litres and it was a battle to get more diesel in due to the pump cutting out. I will definately use another pump .......................maybe this Archoil is a bit too good to be true :peek:

If you are checking MPG and doing a trip and not parking up right after filling up again, Vent the tank if you have that facility.

An actual Brim to Brim.

& if you are using Additives be sure to add the expense of that to the fuel price per tank fill.

I threw an Engine Management Light after trying to get "best value" filling up with cheap petrol in Luxembourg. I stopped at a lovely German Skoda dealrship but after struggling a bit with the language I was told "Von click - HALT!!".  I now only fill up to the first click and it's never shown an EML since.

Obviously different pumps click off at varying points so I now use Spiritmonitor (see signature below) which will average out variations in time and eventually produce a reasonably accurate figure

That light was about poor fuel was it not, and nothing to do with how much up the tube the fuel was?

Petrol was Shell Vpower Nitro and light went off again before car was re-filled (goes off anyway after so many starts). There is less tax on fuel in Luxembourg

I think if you overfill you can flood the charcoal fuel vapour canister

Sorry i read Cheap Petrol, and never thought petrol at a 'cheap price'.

I Vent all the time on long trips, but then it is a different model.
