Windscreen Polish near Halifax

Featured Replies

Howdy,

I know a few of you live around the west yorks area which i am visiting on Sat afternoon. I just wondered if any one has the ability to fully polish a windscreen? Mine is covered in scratches which is not fun when driving at night.

I can probably guess the answer, but if you don't ask...

Do you have a machine polisher?

I have the polishers but not the correct glass polishes/equipment or the confidence to help out . Sorry

No worries thought it was a bit of an ask.

I have a machine polisher, but only ever used it when refurbishing my headlights. Don't have the correct polish or pads either.

Where in Halifax you going?

I live in hx2, don't have the right products to help with your windscreen though

No worries.I'll get them ordered and give it a stab. Might start on my rear screen though as I've got a replacement tailgate should the worse happen.

Or would it be worth practicing on just a normal sheet of glass?

Have you got a rotary? Going to take a very very long time with a DA.

How bad is the glass?

You just need to be careful with heat correcting glass, make sure you spritz with water and check how hot it is periodically.

Yeh mines a rotary.

The glass is pretty crap, scratches all over as if from wipers. Nothing that you catch with a nail though.

Its just at night reduces visibility when ppl are driving towards you.

Yeh I've seen about the heat build up been the main issue

Might be no help but I recently bought some autoglym glass polish and a hand puck style applicator and did my full windscreen before putting new wiper blades on, it's improved mine quite abit really, although I did it before the dark nights started getting that early.

I used the autoglym glass polish a few years back. The name is deceptive as as far as I am aware it is not a true polish ie its not abrasive.

Using that is what made me realise how bad it was, as I finished using it then, caught sight of the scratches from outside the car in daylight

I have written a guide a little while ago.

If you have a machine polisher then all you need is two ingredients first you need the correct pad like this one http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/glass-cleaners-sealants/rayon-125mm-5-glass-polishing-pad/prod_987.html

Then you need some polish I used this stuff. http://www.carpro.uk.com/ceriglass-glass-polish-cleaner-150ml/

As BTS22 said it'll be quicker with a rotary but will work with a D/A watch out for excessive heat but if it's just wiper scratches then you should be fine.

Oh and one more thing cover as much of your paintwork as possible because it's a proper messy process, it won't damage your paint as such but if you don't remove the dust and glass particles it'll make mince meat out of your paint with it being much harder.

Yeah Autoglym glass polish won't do much apart from clean it you need the ingredient Cerium Oxide for it to be an effective polisher on glass

Ahh I may have seen you guide. Do you have a link?

Yeh that was the combination I was looking to get 're pads/polish. Do you think a 3" pad is needed?

I've seen about the covering of paint but didn't think about the damage the off cast could do.

Here you go. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/343767-a-beginners-guidereview-in-polishing-glass-using-ceriglasspic-heavy/?hl=%2Bpolishing+%2Bglass#entry4133642

I don't think you need a 3" pad on the windscreen it's too small and will take forever it's only useful on the side windows or small areas.

I didn't cover my paint but as you'll see in the photos on the guide it gets ever where so covering it would just be an extra precaution, I just made sure I rinsed it with plenty of water and I was fine.
