Hi. New to the forum.

Swapped out the stock air filter for a k&n, and then decided no thanks and refitted the standard but now my engine management light has come on...

What have I done :o

Litrally only came on immediately after driving up the road with the k&n and then didn't go away when I refitted the standard.

Iv checked hoses and wires that whee detached and put back on and all seems OK.

Any help please ? Thanks

Hi and welcome. Was the K&N oiled? Some may have got sucked through onto the MAF sensor and fouled the signal a little, did it run ok?

It could of course be unrelated and be a strange coincidence. If you don't have access to vcds you could disconnect the battery to clear the memory and see if it comes back, or if it's really bugging you get a scan now.

I was care full nothing got dropped and doubt anything got sacked in. It ran fine with k&n but no it wasn't oiled. The car had a service 2k miles ago so don't see how it can be anything else. Iv done the battery left it off for about 30 seconds and put it back on. Checked all fuses and still on :/

Best of just getting it scanned it could be anything really.

I'm going to get it into the workshop to have it checked. But if it is just the fact it needs resetting and that's all it is it won't be harming the engine will it ?

Get a bluetooth OBD reader, they are only about 5 quid!

Will I be able to turn it off myself with one of those ?

For peace of mind get it scanned while the codes on. You can try a bluetooth obd2 to read and clear codes but whether the unit works is a bit of a lottery. The EML comes on for all kinds of reasons, basically the ecu has recognised something outside of its parameters, quite often you're safe to drive until it's checked but it depends what it is. It's when it's flashing is when you really need to worry.

Mine didn't, and neither did the other one I tried

What software did you use with it?

Fixed. Disconnected battery for longer than 30 seconds. Left it for a few minutes all sorted now

Good signs, but if it is an unrelated fault it could take a few ignition cycles to flag up again, if it does then get a scan. It could be that it flagged up for a change in airflow but that would be unusual just from a performance panel filter, anyway fingers crossed. Plus if you need a scan in future all old codes have just been deleted so you'll have a clear picture of where the car is at.
