Catch-can

Featured Replies

I'm bored so thought I would ask something which is in the back of my mind....

I fitted a mich catch can a few months ago and after reading a few threads I was expecting it to gave to empty it every couple of months based on my usage and miles.

So fast forward 6 months and 5k miles and I don't appear to have anything in the can!

Now, admitdly I haven't actually tried to empty it, but it has a spy tube and there is no evidence of anything going in.

In the back of my mind I suppose I'm a little anxious that the heater hose I decided to use to plumb it in is somehow having a bearing on stuff, but that's just probably me being a 'tard :D

What's the outcome if for whatever reason there is a block somewhere between the crankcase and going back into the TIP for a prolonged period of time?

Discuss :)

If it's blocked, it usually ends up leaking oil past the rocker cover.

I'm sure you can just take the tube off and blow in it to see if it's blocked.

I had mine around 6 month also and had virtually no oil in mine, so wouldn't worry. When I drained it to check I had mostly condensation!

Cheers hutchy.

By blocked what I meant was when I was having trouble with the pipe coming away from the TIP I noticed that the pipe out the top of the engine had collapsed. Only saw it like that once, maybe twice, but thought It was worth mentioning.

Heater hose isn't oil/fuel proof is it?

I cover circa 15k miles a year and mine got upto about a quarter on sight glass over a year,so they don't blow a lot out tbh.

It just looks a lot when you look inside a TIP as it spreads a bout a long way.

I was told is was ok to use, but have been looking at this item 230977571103 on the 'bay as a replacement?

When I get a some spare time I'll take it apart and see what it has collected.
