temp guage from 90 to red and back

Featured Replies

gauge not guage!

Hi, have you experienced any similar gremlins ? Usually from cold to engine warming up  all ok then for some reason when pushing faster (usually up a hill) the car temperature gauge jumps into the red. Warning message comes on to pull over but then the temp comes back down to 90 and fine the rest of the day.

The car has been great and due for a service in a month or two. Probably take it in earlier for a check up. Thanks

Water pump 100%

Colleague experienced the same, it was a faulty water pump.

MY 2014 Elegance 2.0 TDI, 100k+ kms on the clock.

Waterpump appears to be a weak point, mine went on sunday but I thought the waterpump is more a catastrophic failure rather than intermittant.  Thermostat maybe?

Many thanks. I will book it in for a check up.

There is a service campaign on certain MK3 Octavias to replace the water pump due to failure I believe.

Pretty sure this will be the problem.

The faulty water pump may work well enough to cool the engine in normal running, but may not be able to keep it cool under high load resulting in the appearance of an intermittent problem.

Basic check, is the water level above minimum mark.

Hi, yes it has always been above since I bought the car two years ago

Mine does the same. Contacted the dealer who confirmed that the variable sleeve waterpump jams intermittently and the car is booked in for a replacement. Seems like a common fault
