Lumia Phone - Windows 10 Update

Featured Replies

My Lumia 830 has updated itself to Windows 10!

Pretty much the same as Windows 8.1 but also slightly different, just trying to get used to it again.

Roll back using Windows Phone Device Recovery Tool.

I was a big fan and vocal advocate of Windows phone until I used Win Phone 10. It's removed all the good bits of 8.1 and turned it into a horrible, unfriendly mess - e.g having to access all emails through Outlook app rather than having seperate mail boxes (huge selling point for me and a lot of people who do corporate and personal on the same device).

And don't expect anything to be in the same place in the settings, they've moved almost everything.

Not planning on rolling back.

I have separate mail boxes, no issue. Had them on 8.1 and they have transferred over OK (work and personal).

Granted settings are different but none of my things have really changed, the display etc is all the same.

The accounts were merged together initially but I did something and they split.

How is battery life and general performance?

I find WP8.1 to be pretty snappy and if 10 is sluggish I'll avoid.

Made that mistake with google's updates basically bricking my Nexus 7.

It was a bit sluggish to start but has sharpened up during yesterday.

Battery life - hard to say at the minute, I think it's about the same, maybe slightly worse (but only slightly).

How on earth did you split?

The only way I can access any email in 10 is via the Outlook app, and then having to pick which mail box I want to use. No where near as good a pinning the separate ones to the start screen.

Hmmm ok. My 920 can go for two days on a charge if it feels like it but often it decides it's real purpose in life is to be a pocket warmer and it'll burn through the battery in 4hr.

I've never figured out what sets it off thought I suspect its something to do with reconnecting to the house wifi.

Was the update pushed to you?

I've been on the dev preview since the 8.1 update.

Er, good question?

In the Outlook app, is there a dropdown box to select/view individual accounts?

If so, select one to view and then try Pin to Start?

Yeah, mine does the same.

I too was on developer preview but I think they've changed the way Win 10 is being distributed. I am also on Windows Insider (App) and it pushed it out via that on Saturday night.

** UPDATE **

More like down date! I've rolled back to 8.1

Fed up with the appalling battery life and slow synchronisation of my accounts.

** UPDATE 2 **

Seems Windows Phone 10 has been revised since the developer release I was on before.

I've upgraded again - battery life is much improved and about on par with 8.1

So far so good, been on Win 10 for about 4 weeks now.

They canned the update for the 920.

But tbh MS has been ****ing me off so much with the way they've been doing things I can't see me choosing a W10 phone.

I'd rather not have an Android but don't really see any option (I'm not going Apple)..

I signed up for the 2nd tier insider preview at the tail end of last year. To be fair all was good (Lumia 640 BTW) for a while, until the updates started.........Earlier this year there was an update in the middle of the night (had a notification in the morning, bleary eyed I just cleared it) and it caused a problem where by it would constantly keep backing things up to the onedrive when on cellular data - I used 2gb of data in a week! Found the fix, but only after having to pay for extra data for the month.

Will not be getting another WIndows phone when I am due my next upgrade - it hangs, doesn't respond, crashes, won't let me post photos properly - a whole raft of little things that will send me back to Android (OH has got a Vodaphone Smart 6 Ultra - and for a "cheap" smartphone, it's on a par with the Samsung S6!) only redeeming feature is after 12 months, the battery still lasts all day - probably because the apps for the Windows phone are, um, not many

Stupid things put me off.

Like the snooze and reminder options. You can't set your own. I might want a reminder for 10 days or 3 weeks before something. MS say 'no', thou shalt only get reminders when we say. Things like that really **** me off. I own you, do as you are bloody told.

Guess it depends how you want to use it, for me it's a business tool - email, phone and calendar. Syncs seamlessly to my Outlook (laptop) and does everything else it needs to.

Not interested in apps if I'm honest - use Endomondo for cycling but that's it.
