Towbar Prep/Dedicated wiring fitting instructions

Featured Replies

I'm picking up a second hand towbar that has both the dedicated and towbar prep wiring. Unfortunately no instructions! The fitting of the towbar isn't a problem but the electrics I'd rather follow a guide.

Does any one have the Skoda fitting instructions for the towbar prep wire which should show the wiring route from the boot to the fuse box and then which fuse sockets to connect to and the fuse ratings required?

The dedicated wiring I assume is just passed through a hole in the boot (near side) and rubber seal pushed in place to keep the water out.

Do you know what electric kit it is? Westfalia is the skoda genuine kit, I've got it on my VRS if it's the westfalia kit I can get you the fitting instructions

Cheers Dowsy, it is the Westfalia kit

If its got towbar prep then surely it just plugs into a socket in the boot above the rear wheel arch?

I've purchased the towbar prep wiring (along with the dedicated wiring and towbar) so needs to be wired in.

Dedicated electrics are fully compatible with the car.

Tow bar prep means the car has been wired from the fuse board to the boot.

If you have both, it should be a question of just plugging the towbar 13-pin loom into the red socket in the boot area.

Or am I misinterpreting what you actually have?

Yes. I have no wiring in the car for a towbar at all.

I need to fit both the wiring for the towbar prep and the dedicated electrics. I need instructions for the installation of the towbar prep wiring from the boot to the fusebox.

On the my kit there was a twisted pair that went to a control unit under the dash

The rest was just plug into the towing electrics unit at the n/s rear.

Cheers KB, I've searched and book marked various posts but not seen yours. Just a had quick glance through and hopefully the majority of it will be the same between cars.

I had an Octavia before my Yeti and it is pretty similar up front.

smc998: the twisted pair would be the CAN wires that need to be tapped into the same wires near the CAN gateway. Not easy to get at and secure the wires.

I certainly didn't need to do that on my Yeti with the genuine Skoda kit. It all went straight into the fuse board with and adapter/bypass loom supplied as well.
