  1. 4x4 and your all season tyres will get you most places, where they don't is probably better not to go there. I've always found the limiting factor is other vehicles that have got stuck, once you loose momentum on steep inclines it's difficult to get going again. It's icy downhill/ polished hard packet snow that I dislike, car sliding under it's own weight absolutely no control. Worst ones always seem to minor roads onto busy T's. Scott
  2. Never knew there was any issue with them, engines seen the red line more than a few times and it never went bang, although generally there is no need to as bags of torque. Pick up is better than my 2.0tdi Scout BMM presumably an emission trait and to protect the DPF despite the Scout having 140 rather than 105. Shame no-one seems interested in buying it - every time I drive it I can't believe it nearly 250,000 miles, I love the car - motoring on the cheap. Scott
  3. 246,000 miles on a BXE still on original turbo - still sweet as, doesn't smoke or use oil only hope the Mk3 I've just bought proves as good. Scott
  4. Check the wiring plug, seen the connectors corroded away to nothing. Worse part is trying to get the remains of the pin out of the plug. Scott
  5. Have you checked the oil level and for leaks, if its just been serviced something might not have been tightened. I wouldn't be just ignoring it and continue driving, expensive repair if something actually wrong. Scott
  6. Hose or pipe come off or split ? Get someone to give it a rev and listen for a leak, usually fairly obvious. Scott
  7. System switches to recirculate when reverse selected rather than drawing in fresh air - it's to stop you sucking in your own exhaust fumes as you reverse.
  8. Joe Which fuse is the one that blows ? Turn off the blower by setting the fan to off then replace the fuse - does it blow ? Do you have VCDS ? Under HVAC you probably have outputs you can drive - not used them myself but find the ones that do the flaps and go through each one until you find the one that blows the fuse. I'd not worry about the location too much - if you count 4 from the other end you finish on the 10 amp. Be wary of the information you come across, a good deal of it is dubious. Learn to use it as guidance. Scott
  9. Yes, its the compressor. Wouldn't have any impact on your current problems. Scott
  10. Joe Looking at VCDS report, check the flap motor fuse which is different from the blower fuse. Try top row right hand side mini fuse iirc. If its blown and replacing it blows it again, one of the flaps is jammed. Post how you get on, I can answer your questions if this is not the right direction. Air con not working as gas pressure low but won't effect general operation. Scott
  11. Its really easy to test the motor insitu, at the back of the motor in the footwell there is a 2 spade multiplug - remove that and run a couple of cables to the pins observing polatity. I usually use a second battery in the footwell saves finding long lengths of cable. If it runs a full speed its fine, time to look elsewhere. The climatronic system will stop the fan running if there is faults with the flap motors or the speed regulator/controller etc. Motors themselves seem fairly reliable. Scott
  12. The transfer box is NOT filled via the gearbox - the interweb does lead one to that conclusion but I can tell you 100% it is filled separately via a fill point above the O/S driveshaft. An expensive mistake learnt. The front diff is in the gearbox the same as the FWD and the transfer box is where you would find the O/S inner CV joint so the Scout uses a shorter driveshaft. The transfer box sends drive to the propshaft which is permanently engaged ie turns when the front driveshaft turn and the haldex engages with the rear when appropriate. Remember that there is a rear diff and Haldex unit at the rear that are easily confused, can't advise on oils, just order from Skoda when I need them. Scott
