Phone Cable

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have a beautiful new Fabia (1.2 SEL dsg). All going well, have managed to get up to an average petrol consumption of 61.2 on a trip from Cornwall to Herts via M5 and M4 so very happy with that. My only issue with the car (bearing in mine I traded in my beautiful Superb) is the iPhone sitting upside down in the cup holder slot with the white apple cable all over the place (I'm using CarPlay for sat nave etc). I just think it looks really untidy and I really just don't like how 'open' that whole are is (yes, I'm being very picky!). Is there anything I can do about it? I did buy a short Belkin cable but had to send it back as basically it didn't work so reluctant to go down that route again. Happy Christmas to All!!!!

Hey Jane I use a really small mircousb lead which my phone stands up in the little space before the cup holders and that works perfect for me. I know Skoda did have something that you could put into the cup holder which will hold your phone and maybe tuck the cable behind it or underneath it perhaps?

Thanks Leprejohn.. I have that less than useful thing you put in the cup holder. Everytime you take your phone out, the whole thing comes out with it so have had to glue it in place. My phone seems to get very hot inside it also which can't be good. I think the iPhone 6 is too big for anywhere other than that area - which is obviously most practical as it is near the usb port.  I think I am more concerned about the overall untidiness of it all. Just wondered if anybody else had a neater solution. Again, thanks for the response...

I believe people have previously posted that the cup holder thingy only really works with a an iPhone 4 or 5. Have you thought about something like this http://www.kenu.com/#/products/airframe as an alternative? You'd still have a cable dangling but your phone might stay cooler?

Regards Bob

Whave a look at what Brodit have to offer for mounts for the Fabia 3. I've been using Brodit mounts for ages and they are excellent. On the site...dsl developments in UK, IIRC, you specify by car and device to get the right mount combination.

Worth having a look and the service is very good.

Sorry to hijack this but it's the closest I can find without starting an entirely new topic... these things are related.

Can the cup holders in that area reasonably hold two cups? Only reason I ask is because one looks smaller than the other. Has anyone had issues?

Reason I ask what may seem a little thing is because the car that the Fabia would replace in our household doesn't have cup holders (previous car did and you forget how useful they are)!

Thanks. Also a feel your pain about the iPhone cables, Jane. Best bet I can think of is using a little tie-around to keep the cable itself neat and tidy. I have a cable from a company called Native Union and they come with neat little leather 'belts' to keep the cable wrapped up...

I hada similar mount to hold my phone and I have to say it was useless - not because of the build quality (although that was poor, and my mount cost more than $19) but because by the time the phone was put in the mount and the mount mounted to the airvent the weight was sufficient to force the airvent vanes down. That meant continually adjusting the mount so that with the airvent vanes pointing to the floor the phone screen could be read. Eventually the thrteaded parts simply broke. So, while the idea might appear to be a good one, I would avoid this solution.

Anyone able to advise on my cup holder question above?

The answer is, no you can't.

The larger one will hold cups, cans of pop that kind of thing, the other smaller one will only hold narrow cans like energy drinks, RedBull springs to mind although other brands are available

Depends on how hipster you are. The small cup holder also takes a take-away espresso sized cup (macchiato, picolo latte etc). The door cup holders are also very good. I have used them for takeaway coffee cups without issue (I spend a lot of time on the road, hence all the coffee-related size comparisons)

Thanks. Bizarre that they're different sizes. Do we think this was done on account of the optional smartphone holder?

At least there are decent ones in the doors. I've always thought our Mk2 Octavia does a good job of holding bottles in the door pockets.

I do a lot of driving too (2 hours / 100 miles per day) so can empathise with your coffee comparisons! [emoji23]
