steering issue

Featured Replies

Hi after some help as not sure on a issue. I have done the TT/S3 suspension set on my up mk1 Vrs had to change the rack about five months ago well roughly I think. Recently have noticed more so when the car is up to temperature that when been driving and I approach a corner the first initial turn has what can only describe as a stiff point before turning then is fine sort of but slightly heavier than normal and doesn't return to centre very well would you say its another worn rack or is it possibly steering pump? Any help appreciated

I would have thought steering pump would have been stiff all the time...

To be honest without checking out your car personally to be sure, I would be looking for either partially siezed track rod ends or balljoints, which can be fairly quickly checked by releasing the track rod ends from the hubs and seeing if any tight spots exist as you move the hub by hand lock to lock on each side. Also you can check the track rod end for tight spots by hand while they are released from the hub as well.

It could also be a partially siezed top mount.

Just a few thoughts, hope it helps.

Phil.

Ball joints, track rod ends, drop links all changed when the rack was and have been checked inbetween now and top mounts were changed for Leon Cupra R items four months ago. So not sure what else can be other than rack and pump
