In car power outlet. Yeti SE Outdoor 2014

Featured Replies

Here's an interesting one. Two weeks ago I took delivery of a 2014 Yeti SE Outdoor. Since then I've been gradually installing the various bits transferred from my previous Yeti. On checking the operation of my SatNav, I found that it didn't power up as usual when I plugged it into the in-car 12v power outlet. I have checked the outlet with a test-meter and found it to be dead. My next step was to check the outlet in the boot - which works fine. I then checked the manual to see which fuse controls the front power outlet. This wasn't as simple as I thought it would be. Fuse 26 on the dash panel is labelled 'Power socket in the boot'. There is no equivalent entry for the in-car socket. There is, however, a fuse at 30 described as 'front and rear lighter'. If the latter referred to the two power outlets, it would be a mystery as to why one worked and the other didn't.  I can think of no other options than that either the in-car power outlet has its own fuse or is linked in with some other items on another circuit - neither being itemised in the manual fuse-box list.

The car has to go in shortly for some warranty work and I will get it checked then. In the meantime, has anyone any suggestions, please? Many thanks.

Not sure from your description but does your SatNav power up with the ignition switched on?, It is possible to select whether the power socket is on all the time or is switched with the ignition, this is determined by the position of the fuse which powers the socket.

In the OCTAVIA 3 - The fuse which powers the front socket is the Yellow one shown in the Step 2 picture in the following thread - above and to the right of the Blue fuse pointed at, in the position shown it powers the socket with the ignition switched on, to power permanently the fuse is just moved up 1/2 position to the same position as the Black fuse to connect the top input to the center output

May help investigate then Yeti

The Yeti fuse box is totally different to the MQB cars (Octavia 3 and Superb 3)

I would have thought that if there is a separate fuse for the boot socket that the one that says front and rear would be the front one and the optional one you can have if you have the rear ashtray fitted.

rriggs you are spot on   Front and Rear, the rear would be optional

On a Yeti both sockets are permanently live.

I would have thought that if there is a separate fuse for the boot socket that the one that says front and rear would be the front one and the optional one you can have if you have the rear ashtray fitted.

I suspect you are correct.

On my mk 1 the interior front socket is ignition controlled, so fused separately, - as I need stuff permanently charged had to install a usb socket in the dash top tray which I piggy back fused off the rear socket fuse!

Thanks for your responses. In my previous Yeti, a 2012 Greenline S, the Satnav powered up with the ignition off as soon as I plugged the lead into the front power socket. This concurs with the manual on my 2014 Yeti which states 'The power socket and any connected appliances can also be operated when the ignition is switched off or the ignition key is withdrawn'. It had not occurred to me that the reference to a 'rear lighter' meant an optional one for the rear seats, never having previously come across this. In fact, the Satnav powered straight up when I connected it to the power outlet in the boot without the ignition on, so suggesting that it is on a different circuit to the front one. Proceeding logically, it looks as though I should next check fuse 26 to see if it has blown. It being a used vehicle, I've no way of knowing what might have been plugged into that power socket previously which might have caused this problem. It now being dark and wet outside, this will have to wait until tomorrow. I will report back on what happens. Thanks again.

I checked the fuses and found that both 30 and 31 were blown. Replacing 30 restored power to the 12v socket. Fuse 31 is for the headlamp washers which I hadn't realised that I had got! However, I replaced the fuse and they're now working. In view of there being two adjacent fuses blown, my dealer was going to do a diagnostics check on the electrics when the car went in for some other work. Unfortunately, they were not able to do this as their two sets of diagnostics equipment were out of order, as was their key-coding bluetooth connection for the flat key which I had ordered. They were having major electronics issues all round . Hopefully all will be sorted before long.

Need to get USB C to normal USB 5v to 12v . Sat Nav has USB going into 12v old plug so i can go usb c to usb but need to step up volatge from cars 5v to sat navs 12 v .

Proper pain this as presumed car would have 12v in front. Also going to mess up all my laptop connections as well.

As they say fail to prepare and all that . :(

wrong thread :(
