NEW Black Fabia VRS owner. Drinks fuel though:(

Featured Replies

Totaly impressed:thumbup: , i always said id never buy a diesel never buy a new car and id never drive a skoda. Learnt to drive nearly 3yrs ago in a normal fabia and wanted something sporty from skoda.

Finaly insureance has given in and ive got a new Fabia VRS:) . The best valve for money i think, as i did nearly go for the fiesta st150 but found it boring and the dealer was an ****.

The only down side i have found and wonder if other people have the same problem is ive now done 780 miles since i got it and its crap on fuel, no matter how careful i drive it. The computer tells me iam getting 25-30 mpg going to work :thumbdwn: , i know its a stupid small journey of bout 2miles and the car doesnt get warm at all, but when i go on the motorway i get no more than 42mpg at about 80mph. All the dealer says wait untill 1200miles. just doenst seem rite. Hope ive not bored you all but i went from a gr8 sporty astra mk4 sxi 1.8 and iam putting the same about of fuel in?? This car is a DIESEL not a petrol.

Welcome to a New Deisel owner & the site :wavey:

The good news is you are not alone with this, as the engine beds in the economy WILL improve ( HONEST - Its a Skoda :) ) , Just keep an eye on the oil as well for the 1st 10K miles.

Also dont forget to keep the rev to 3k max for approx 800 miles, then gradually increase. :)

How hard is it to keep under 3k revs. i know its a diesel but u have a new car u wanna have fun and when u look down ur going over. and on the motorway when i 1st got it and when iam overtaking on the motorway iam doin 100+ wiwout thinkin. But other than the 1st 100miles of not following the 'run' in stuff ive just been dieing for the fuel mpg to improve, but if people say it will improve ill go with the 'its a skoda honest' aproch to things.

I average 50 mpg now.. (17,000 miles) and on one run in Scotland recently I got 59.1 :) It will improve, the short journey will always be bad mpg if the engine doesn't heat up, get 10k inder its belt first before you judge ;)

Mine has got 9.8k on the clock and I just did a trip to edinburgh and back to warrington. Figures from the MFA or whatever it is these days (trip pooter) avg speed 57MPH, avg MPG 44.2

pretty average for a "performance" tdi I would say, much better than the old scoob which would have averaged around 20 - 25mpg I reckon.

I wouldn't worry about the running in thing too much. The people who developed longlife oil recommend keeping below 1/2 throttle for 100 miles and then gradually treating the engine harsher up to full throttle. VAG diesel engines need a bit of thrashing to help with bedding in anyway. I didn't believe that when I first heard it but I have to admit it's working for me.

I didn't run mine in, and it never used ANY oil, and has been faultless up to its current 17,000 miles :) I drove it normally from the word go....

Going on a long run tomro so we shall see what that turns up.

Welcome to briskoda

Like others have said it will get better with mileage and age, also if your used to driving petrol you'll need to adapt your driving style.

Welcome. :D

The only down side i have found and wonder if other people have the same problem is ive now done 780 miles since i got it and its crap on fuel, no matter how careful i drive it. Seriously you should walk, bike or bus for two miles. The engine won't get warm, you won't get better than 30mpg when cool and it's just plain not good for it to spend it's whole life cold doing short trips like that. Having said that, the 42mpg at 80 isn't great. I average over 52-55mpg on motorway runs...

these days becasue of the amount of pure tools on our roads, engines are pre-run in at factory level. obviously get them used to your weather and road conditions and bed them in but the engines are effectivcely already run in...

i ragged the *** off my transit van from day one and it runs fine and is probably one of the nipiest on the fleet :) run in?? bothered?

*cough* except when you broke it ;) *cough*

miffed me only for a few days, the warning lights went away by themselves, and as far as I can tell, nothing was ever wrong, and still isn't  so I stand by "no faults" even if the computer thought there were ;)
