Iron-X. - what next?

Featured Replies

Ok chaps , bear with me, I'm still getting to grips with how beautiful your cars look and how you keep them that way so apologies for what must seem like pretty simple questions, I will get there, I promise.

When my car is parked at work, it's parked fairly close to a railway line so I'm assuming that a combination of that and using the car normally has resulted in a decent contaminant buildup?

So, iron-X, I know what it does which is fine but a couple of questions from not the most fastidious Detailer in the South of England

1. How often should I repeat the process?

2. Safe on wheels and calipers, yes? But do you have to get the wheels as clean as possible first?

3. I assume the process must strip off some of the sealant or whatever you use in the process and if it does, I guess I need to reseal with something or other?

4. I have watched a few tutorials, is it best to agitate the stuff once it's on or just leave it an reapply if you feel it's necessary?

Ok, done now, please humour the daft guy...

Hey buddy.

1. I do it twice a year when I fully decontaminate in the spring and before winter.

2. Yes, completely safe. I get the wheels clean first to expose the most imbedded iron contamination.

3. Yes, after you've used it, you will need to apply some more paint protection as it will strip wax and sealant.

4. I agitate to get the most from the product. Some don't, but I do.

Iron X is also a good clay cloth lubricant. So you kill 2 birds with one stone if you use a clay cloth.

Hope this helps mate.

Top man, really appreciate yor response.

Many thanks.

I would buy bilt hamber korrosol instead....cheaper and smells actually quite nice! Works just as well.

+1 for Korrosol. BH Auto Wheels is pretty effective as well.

I brought the car chem revolt stuff as it was on offer and that too works very well.

Thanks guys, it looks like there's quite a choice that appear to work well.

I will have a ponder and report back in due course.

Chaps.

Update...

Invested in a bottle of Devils Blood and had a chance to use it earlier.

Well, if the customary streaking is a guide, my bodywork wasn't too bad although to be fair, the offside was far worse than the near side.

However, where it did impress was on the wheels, I pride myself on keeping my wheels fairly clean but it's hard with satin black wheels to truly get an idea of how dirty they may be.

So, on with the DB, make a cup of tea, quick agitate with a brush and wow, the result is fantastic, they even dried back to a nice uniform finish.

So, yes, very happy with my purchase, now to the next stage...

Excellent.

They are great products, I use Dragon's Breath!
