Results of recent vRS re-map

Featured Replies

Thought you might be interested in the results of a re-map I have just had carried out by Star Performance in Scotland.

I now have 180 bhp and 304 lbf-ft torque with a lovely spread of power right up to 4120 rpm. I have no smoke from the back of the car when under load - everything seems to be very clean.

The car revs very cleanly right up to the redline and just keeps on pulling through the gears. Very wet on the way home and the wheels were struggling for grip in 3rd and 4th gears - very impressive!

An interesting point though - the "before" dyno reading showed that my little car was putting out a genuine 150 bhp and 241 lbf-ft torque. Much more than official figures quote and (maybe) enough for some people anyway!

I can highly recommend Star Performance and the service that they can provide for these little Fabia's (along with other VAG Group vehicles).

Glad you like it, nearly the same results 3 of us had at Star 2 weeks ago. Roll on the next modification

So the remap only gave you 30bhp extra then?

yeah but no....the remap took him up to 180 hp which it would have done if the car was only putting out 130 from the factory or 150, makes no difference.

Good to hear of the performace increase. I recently purchased a full Milltek exhaust system for my fabia vRS from them and was really please with the service.

Regards your quote about grip in the wet after the remap. I love my fabia vRS to bits, but the only irritating thing with it is the constant scrambling for grip in the wet. Its one of the concerns I would have with getting a remap. The car already has problems handling the large torque in the wet as standard never mind with increased torque.

Can I ask what they said about the clutch standing up to the extra power/torque and have you noticed any slippage yet.

The remap gave a 20% increase.

Short of taking the engine out of the car and measuring it on a test bench there isn't any way to accurately know what the starting figure was.

If the start was 130 or 150 , either way 20% for a few hundred quid is good value for money

You don't need to measure accurately - just using the same equipment for before and after will lose any systematic error, but sure a 20% increase is nice to have!

This is very true and the way it drives is the biggest clue to improvements. With the accuracy of most rolling roads, the results are academic anyway and just used for "pub chat" :D

With regards to the clutch handling the extra power - this has been identified as the weak point with all re-maps.

Apparently, 300 lb/ft of torque is about the maximum the little car can handle, both with regards to grip and clutch life.

Of course, a lot depends on how the car is driven - I'm a bit old for traffic light grand prixs and use the car for commuting on A roads with very little traffic, so there is not much stop-start involved in my 50 mile trip.

The extra power in the 50 - 90 mph range is awesome - exactly what I wanted from the work.

Star Performance do uprated clutch kits for the vRS, so if I need one I know where to go!

Cheers

Yup, theyre fitting my new clutch/flywheel next month :(
