Another starting problem

Featured Replies

New year time, I was doing elderly dad duties, and using ( possibly according to pedants) misusing my blue badge to let daughter do some shopping. Car had starting problems, and daughter called out her breakdown service. Problem was down to fuel shut off valve being sticky .Cleaned and all has been well for a few weeks. Today, I had starting problems .It started and ran as if on 1/2 cylinders of 3. Shut off and ignition back on, I found the fuel shut off stuck closed. Move the mechanism, and all is well. Mech is close by the EGR. Any advice to get rid of problem, as it appears to be a sticky fuel shut off valve problem again. .

I think your talking about the anti shudder valve which is part of the EGR and closes the air intake off when the ignition is turned off to help stop the engine.

If there isn't a fault with the control, which may be vacuum powered or electric, it could just be the whole thing is gummed up with oily sooty deposits and so it's sticking shut.
