Wheel Arch Liners - cleaning

Featured Replies

Hi all, yep me again, try not to giggle too loud, I have good hearing...

Looking back, it appears this was addressed about four years ago but I thought I would ask again just in case opinions have changed.

My vRS has wheel arch liners which have a semi carpet like appearance to them, I assume in a somewhat feeble attempt to address the road noise issue.

Anyway, they of course attract crud which then sticks to them like poo to a blanket!

So, is power washing the only course of action and once clean, can anything be used to treat them to slow down any future build up of the nasties?

As always, suggestions gratefully received.

Pre wash / APC and a stiff upholstery brush works well for me.

I use Powermaxed  TFR if they are really dirty then snow foam followed by a good seeing to with the under body attachment on my nilfish power washer. If they are not too bad I skip the TFR.

I normally start with ValetPro Citrus Pre-wash, then snow foam and rinse.

Thereafter - it's APC and a decent set of brushes to go for a full and proper clean around the suspension compnents etc.

I think the carpet like arch liners are actually there to try and stop/lessen the spray caused by the tyres on a wet road.

Have a look at the massive mud flaps on wagons, most of them have carpet like hairy mudflaps

( Alternative mudflaps are available )
