Third Brake Light - retrofitting Audi A7/Bentley Continental/BMW 6 Series style!

Featured Replies

So, in the lead-up to collecting a Mk3 Skoda Superb Hatchback next weekend, I've been eyeing up other executive cars and comparing the styling.

I was driving behind an A7 on the way into London and thought the third brake light looked amazing - the way it spans across the entire rear window.

Does anyone know if it can be retrofitted onto a Superb? Or has anyone perhaps done a mod of this kind? I think the body shape of the Superb will suit this look a lot!

Here's how it looks on the 6 series BM.

Anything is possible.

The brake light is housed inside the rear tailgate trim, so to retro-fit a full width one will not be straight forward

That's what I was thinking. Any ideas though? Could LED strip lights be used?

Without getting a new trim made then it will look awful IMO.

A solid strip light would be the best way as the end of the LED’s would need to be horizontal to be effective, so mounting it will also be a PITA... too much work IMO, despite how good they look.

Not a great photo but you can see how large the brake light trim is in this photo, this trim is one piece and also covers the side of the hatch:

Looking from the front of the car back (my camera is mounted to the brake light / hatch trim)

It would look awesome!!! Looking at Gizmos photos, it would be a big job to get it looking like it was a professional install.

Really appreciate the pics Martin and you're right... It does look like it'll be a PITA.

I might head over to a custom styling garage I know and ask some of the tuners to have a look. Perhaps with some careful cutting and some 3D printing it could be done.

Keep us posted, it would look brilliant!!!
