Thud on acceleration/deceleration

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I've been experiencing a mild 'Thud' from the front when coming on or off the accelerator in a higher gear I.e. Cruising on a motorway, I'm thinking its a mount of some sort and noticed a fair bit of play in the gearbox mount. Replaced that and it's still there. I've fitted a powerflex dogbone insert about 6 months ago and I'm now beginning to wonder if this is making the 'thud' worse by sending it though the car. Has anyone had any experience of this?

Car is a 2008 Pre FL TDI VRS

Many Thanks!

There doesn't appear to be too much play in the engine mount which made me think the thud is being transmitted through the dogbone mount now that it has the powerflex insert in.

My 2008 1.9 PD is doing this, months after the whole of the front suspension was rebuilt with new parts. it's certainly mount related somewhere, when I'm a bit more mobile myself I;ll get it looked at.

Following this with interest.

I'll crawl underneath the car tomorrow if the weather permits and see if I can see any play. I'm expecting to see play in the dogbone mount at the engine side. Hopefully that'll fix it!

Thanks for that, let me know if you find anything please. Having been in hospital and had surgery two weeks ago, I'm not in any fit state to look at mine yet!

Had a good poke underneath yesterday and my dogbone mount seems to be in a good condition and the bolts were all tight. I'm tempted to put a top engine mount on it as there's signs of wear and I've also seen the other thread about anti roll bar bushes so I might do these as well while I'm at it!
