2014 vrs tsi clutch limits!

Featured Replies

Been looking into a dtuk tuning box, however in the past when I've had remaps I've suffered from clutch slip! Does anyone know if the manual clutch on the tsi is strong enough to handle 300bhp and 450nm torque? I've tried to find out if it's the same clutch used in the manual golf R but have no idea if the clutch will handle all that torque?

I've had my DTUK box fitted for around 8 months now without problem, I did drive it "enthusiastically" just before xmas (around the Valleys in South Wales) for around 30 miles, and yes the clutch started to smell but no slippage.

If you go ahead with the tuning box get the pedal box too, it transforms how the car responds to throttle input.

I wonder what the clutch can handle, as in the post I'm weary of getting one due to the clutch slip I had on previous cars! I don't want to be folking out for a new clutch and dual mass every 10,000 miles!

revo and apr both do maps that limit the torque and protect the clutch.

or change the clutch to something better, any indy garage could do the spannering.

You can run very good torque on these engines from the off but the clutches on the vRS/7GTI aren't great at much over 400-420nm at 2,000rpm.  As neiln said there are re-maps that limit the torque down low and that is for exactly this reason.  As for uprated clutches I seem to remember Sachs doing an uprated clutch which gives you up to 550nm but I would double check this.

Do the TDI and TSI have the same clutch?  There seems to be a couple of variants of the MQ350.

MQ350-6A upto 380NM - GOLF R and AUDI S3

MQ350-6F upto 350NM - GOLF GTI and VRS
