Water ingress - rear door - help please!

Featured Replies

Whilst hoovering the Fabia out on Sunday I noticed that the underside of the rear (drivers side) floor mat was wet. The carpet was also mildly damp.

Today with the car parked out in the rain, I opened the rear door to find water on the sill and also behind the door seal (see attached pics). This is not the case for any of the other doors. I have checked the drain holes in the seal and they all seem to be clear.

Has anyone else seen or had this problem?

TIA,

Grant

I it a common fault on fabias.

The door leaks internally, for which skoda have a repair proceedure.

If you search the forum you will find more about this.

Take the car back to Skoda and get them to repair it under warranty.

iv got the same... will get mine in too.

If you put your hand on the underside of the rear door's card (or carrier as they call it)' date=' you will find it wet and dripping. If it's not raining just chuck a bucket of water over the door to see it happening.

Happens on mine too, but soon to have the third attempt to fix it

See this http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=39444 for more info

Had the g/f's vRS back to the dealers for the very same problem last week, be warned if you dont sort it the water will get to the ECU and thats when the fun starts. Cost me £16k to put right, mind you I am getting a Octy 4x4 TDI Estate included in that for my trouble......... pesky car showrooms lol!!!

Noticed this on mine too, although having had the door cards/carriers off in the past, I know that the innards of my doors are held in with rivets and not bolts. So much for Skoda's fix!

In my case, it's the rear passenger door that does it, just like vrs_aml. There doesn't seem to be any water INSIDE the car (yet), but the top edge of the seal and the top of the sill are definitely wet. The rear passenger side window also mists up quite a lot, although as the inside-bottom of the door card/carrier is wet as per the previous posts, it's hardly surprising...

Makes me wonder if the decision to put manual window winders in the back doors of all 05MY-on Fabias was to avoid electrical problems rather than cost-cutting, after what justdoit said... :thumbdwn:

Most annoying of all is that Gorner's in Warrington is now shut, and I'd really rather not go all the way to their other branch in Wigan. I don't hold much hope for Horner's fixing it either, given their reputation, so fokknose where I'm going to get it fixed...

I've had the rear doors on my Fabia done by the local dealer, two weeks out of warranty! Now I find, a month later, the problem is back; is it possible to effect a complete cure? I get so much water collecting on the inside of the rear window (estate), and collecting in the door, that when I open it up, streams of water run out of the trim. Rear washer seems OK, and the tide mark is now 10 ins up the doors. Just waiting for a date to put the car in again; can I insist on watching what the mechanic does?

Since this is up, I thought I should say I've never had this problem...however during summer, when it is really hot, some sorta sticky waxy stuff comes out of all the doors sharpest corners, plus occasionally all over. Could someone explain that??

Maybe the grease melting from the winder mechanism?

That's the cavity wax melting and running out.

What is cavity wax and why is it there in the first place??

Cavity wax is basically trade Waxoil. It's a corrosion inhibitor and is (or should be) present on most new cars. Years ago, people put their own waxoil in the seams and cavities - you can still do it with a gun or brush if you want to add to what's already there.

The fact that it is usually waxy but only turns to liquid under heat means that when the cars shell is baked after painting it goes exactly where any water will go in the future and stops rust forming.

Clever but simple- like all the best things.

About the water leaking inside from the doors, I understood the problem with the carrier sealing, but my problem is why the water doesen't drain through the hole from the bottom corner of the door? The water level must be really high to leak at the seal

My fabia is in having the repair to the rear doors at the moment, and as was explained to me by the tech it is due to the shape of the door when it rains or car is washed the water drips down and onto the membrain and then runs down it and out of the bottom where it is suppost to be sealed and onto the door card and interior trim.Sorry if its hard to follow my description but he showed me with the door card off and sure enough out the water came along ther bottom of the membrain. So all that is done is reapply the membrain using rivits not screws and a sort of seal/sealant across the bottom, and hey presto no leak.

Yep, the water level backs up and comes in over the seal.

I have the same problem, took to dealer and the car is going to be sorted (hopefully) under warrenty.

Rear maps were a little damp.

Dealer expects to have the car for 3 days
