Premium doubled in one year?

Featured Replies

So I got my renewal quote through from Allianz for the Mazda – £829 fully comp. Last year's premium was £418.

I just phoned them up and they say they've reviewed their policy pricing structure. WTF? Reviewed it to the tune of a 100% increase? Really?

The only change to my circumstances is the expiry of an SP30 from 2010.

Has anyone else's insurance doubled in the last year?

Nope, just change. They don't want you as a customer anymore.

It's just bizarre though. A quick comparison search brings up Admiral at £447, and a few others in that area.

Why would Allianz knock me back when it's such a safe £400 for them? Has the SP30 expiry made any difference? Maybe they think I'm going to be more reckless now?

Confounding

Thing is, there's no 'safe' premium. It's a risk everytime. They have restructured their business model in a way they believe will make them the most money. You no longer fit in it, unless you pay a higher price.

I personally wouldn't worry too much about it, move to a company which is cheaper, it'll take about 10 minutes of your time :)
