xterior vinyl/plastic trim

Featured Replies

Hi,the exterior vinyl/plastic trim (topside of the door next to the window) on my 6 year old Fabia has started to crack and break up. Can anyone suggest how I can remedy this problem?

I have heard of people using a heat gun on faded plastic, never been brave enough myself but used carefully it can soften and rejuvenate the surface apparently. Not sure how effective it would be with cracked though. Be careful though these aren't the kind of mistakes you can come back from.

If you need a new one...

EDIT: If faded you can get the colour back by a number of means. However, if it's cracked or chipped, can I ask, is someone you know quite "brisk" with an ice scraper?

Thanks for the replies and I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. The “plastic” trim needs replacing on one side as is showing the paint work underneath, the other could be botched if I could find a black putty substance. The data base of parts is helpful but it takes some searching through and as of yet I havnt found anything that corresponds to the part.

I rarely us a ice scraper on the glass as I prefer to let the ice melt off so I'm not sure what could have caused the damage but I do know some plastics get brittle with age so it could be that. Again thanks for the replies and I will keep on searching for a fix.
