Hello, first post on here. Hopefully the first of many!!

I've always had a fancy for the octavia and I'm currently looking for a new car. My current car (Hyundai i20) doesn't have the power nor does it have the boot space, which is a pain when towing a track bike and having to carry all the ancillaries with the back seats down. The octavia vrs fits the bill, as I've been after a sportyish car with a bit of grunt and especially because of the price and the boot size of the estate is huge, even with the seats up.

In a moment of madness, I was considering a 320D m sport touring, however by the time I'd specced one up with the necessary extras, I was looking at well over £40k  :thumbdown:

Now I've been into my local dealership and had a drive of both the petrol and diesel engines, but as I'd be doing a bit of towing / touring, the diesel would be of more use.

Colour wise, the race blue is my pick. The black does look nice, as does the white, but the blue looks nice and sporty  :sun:

I've thought long and hard, but I'd certainly be choosing the following extras;

* Rear side airbags and crew protection (safety first)

* Spare Wheel (don't trust that tyre 'goo in a can')

* The black design pack with black roof rails and tinted windows

* Variable boot floor (one of the test cars had it in and I was impressed with it's versatility)

* Columbus system, with bluetooth plus and wifi.

* Canton sound system (again one of the test cars had it and I could tell the difference)

* Full leather seats, with front and rear heating

* Smartgate

* Towbar

* Electric folding mirrors

My question is; are the following optional extras worth the money

* Parking assistant (I know it's a large car, however I drive a van day in day out and can parallel park that) Would front and rear sensors be enough?

* Electric boot lid - Seems lazy to have it, as you still need to at least press a button rather than other manufacturers having the foot peddle

* Reversing Camera - They don't let you a lot on a test drive, so I couldn't gauge whether I'd benefit from one. I'd imagine it would be handy for reversing back upto my trailer

* Front assistant - I hope I'm always driving with due care and attention, but.................

They're worth £1605 extra ( but minus £350 for the front and rear sensors), so I'm interest to know if any of you have them and your thoughts, as the car's rrp is starting to look around £32k  :dull:

A few things I definitely won't buy are the cornering fog lights (hate them), the high beam assist (you'd hope I can see oncoming traffic at night) and a sun roof. I've no need as well for keyless entry, adaptive cruise control or the heated windscreen and washer jets (don't usually have to go out first thing)

*deep breath* I know that's a long first post, but from some of the bits I've read on here, I know it'll be answered honestly  :clap:

Your advice is appreciated

Welcome Ian

As much as I like the Octavia, £30K for one is very strong money, a lot of the options you like are std on a Superb (so maybe worth considering?)

* Parking assistant (I know it's a large car, however I drive a van day in day out and can parallel park that) Would front and rear sensors be enough?

Personally I would go for it if just for the extra sensors you get on the side of the car

* Electric boot lid - Seems lazy to have it, as you still need to at least press a button rather than other manufacturers having the foot peddle

I love the electric tailgate (the superb can be opened with your foot also)

* Reversing Camera - They don't let you a lot on a test drive, so I couldn't gauge whether I'd benefit from one. I'd imagine it would be handy for reversing back upto my trailer

I specced this and I am happy with it, I can see it would be very handy for a trailer

* Front assistant - I hope I'm always driving with due care and attention, but.................

Not 100% sure of this as it can be annoying... as well as useful.

FWIW I specced up an L&K Superb (190 TDi hatch) for a lot less than £32k (from an online broker.

thanks for the reply

one of the main reasons for choosing the octavia was the 0% pcp. I know about places such as carwow, but they don't appear to do the same finance deals

the boot lid........yeah it would save the walking out to the car, walking back into the house to get an arm full of gear and the walking back out to the car. I do think the rubber strap which hangs down on the manual boots to looks a bit cheap

I understand what you mean about the front assistant, already looking away from it
