Smell through vents

Featured Replies

Cut the long story short. I recently ran the car for a week without a breather under the inlet manifold and a snapped dipstick tube but had it all replaced. Only thing is since its been replaced ive been getting a oily type smell coming through the vents. I think it could be due to the oil that was splashed out of the tube while it was snapped.

Is there an easy way to clean this up without removing bits and bobs? The smell is driving me insane

Haha, I did tell you to be careful and try to temporarily seal them up! :)

Glad it's sorted now.

The only way you're gonna get rid of that smell it to clean the engine bay where the oil has misted out. That means getting some de-greaser, spraying it over the motor and engine bay, and washing out. Obviously you need to be careful where you spray the water around - if you do a good enough job degreasing, you should find a normal hose with low pressure water sufficient to rinse off. I would go very carefully if you decide to use a jet wash hose.

Lastly, I would imagine that there is oil vapour and contaminants impregnated into your cabin pollen filter, so that's going to need replacing too. It's not expensive and there is a how to replace guide on here. It's located on the nearside under the bonnet, behind the plastic scuttle panels. It's not difficult to replace.

Good luck!
